Guilty pleasures when it comes to known guitarists?

Brian Blush from The Refreshments. Very cool playing. Not typical road worn stuff.

Damon Johnson of Brother Cane. Lie In the Bed I Make, so cool and gritty. Wishpool is a great disc track by track. Again, not your typical FM radio fodder.

The guy is a certifiable rock star player. Toured with Alice Cooper, in Thin Lizzy a while, in Black Star Riders.

Any new country session guitar player... some of these dudes can play circles around many of the rock and metal guys recording albums nowadays. You can hear the carefully hidden 80's chops in their twangy pickins!

Prong... awesome!

I'm on a David Grissom thing lately, which I've been getting slack for.

Ramon Santiago of the Pixies. One of those textural type players.

That's because a lot of those guys ARE former 80s wanna be shredders..and I agree with Heritage S..Brother Cane's Damon Johnson is a tastefully great player..one of my favorite 90s bands.

Almost forgot..I'm sure most of you are familiar with him but when it comes to underrated players..No#1 for me has to be Audley Freed..Cry of Love rocks.

Eddie Hazel
Freddie Stone
Jimmy Nolen
Keb Mo
Justin Townes Earle

"That guy from Rascal Flats"

I'm not into their music, but they were on TV before and the guy just slayed the leads.

Neil Giraldo

+1. That was the first guy that popped into my head. I'll also add (flame suit on) Neil Young. Let me make my case...one of the things we strive for as guitarists is to have our own unique voice, among other things. Neil has that. I know he's extremely sloppy, but when he solo's it's immediately identifiable.

No kidding! Well that explains it then.. either way, some really cool arpeggio stuff and runs in some of those otherwise boring or ridiculous songs about summer love or parking lot barbeques. :D

lol, to my point exactly, this is one of "those" guys without a name..

J. Robbins from Jawbox, Stephen and Adam from Cave In, Thurston and Lee from Sonic Youth, Gary and Alex from the last incarnation of Crime In Stereo... and there's a million more. They aren't really guilty pleasures, but they aren't players that usually come to mind when thinking of excellent guitarists. These guys aren't flashly shredders, but more textural and creative in their approaches to the instrument.
