Pretty much nitro all the way here. I'm generalizing, but most of the bad sounding guitars I've owned had thick-ass poly glopped on, and most of the great sounding guitars were nitro. However nitro wears a lot faster, and if you're a guy who always plays the lead channel on your solid state Crate amp with an EMG-loaded floyd guitar, you could probably coat the body in truck bedliner and you wouldn't know the difference.
