Guitar modeling software

I'm glad I'm coming across this thread- I'm also needing a "silent" recording option. Good to see guys getting great tones from modeling software
Been semi-overwhelmed with the options of Kemper vs. reamping a direct signal vs. Two Notes Torpedo vs. using modeling software

I've been leaning toward a Kemper, but if I can get good results with S-gear in Logic X, I'm due to upgrade my iMac and my Logic Pro soon, so I'll probably end up saving some money that way.

Can anyone speak to advantages of Kemper tone and response-wise vs the above mentioned software?
(Yes, I know Kemper does the profiling thing.- not concerned about that.)

That's a kind of tone you can get with the Kemper and a little experience (and good stuff).
It's an Engl620 into a small tube amp with EQ into the top cab of a marshall stack + old SM57.
I'm testing short reverb + space reverb, not sure they are well recorded into Reaper though i think all is correct.(spdif)

IMO you will not get this tone with GR5 or perhaps with external IRs.

By the way i like the jump model in GR5, true ACDC tone. :)

thank you. I have a Metric Halo ULN-2 (2D Expanded) and it's an excellent interface.

What free plugins are there that you can recommend? l

The best catalouge I have came across is listed at the Sneap forums.

There is a pretty decent list of free sims.

Also there are some you tube vids floating around that show amazing results from these and they show 90% of how they acheived that tone.

Add Overloud TH2 to the list. There's a Super Lead preset that sounds similar to a channel on one of my tube amps. I compared both the real amp and TH2 into the same cab sim. TH2 sounded _really_ good and was pretty competitive to a real amp to my ears. For that, and for high gain sounds, it's the best I've heard in software modelers. It also has the best software cab sim I've heard of anything, including hardware units that are popular right now..

Otherwise Guitar Rig 5 is awesome! Really easy user interface, and lots of great sounds for everything. That may be the better place to look for the types of tones you are talking about.

Honorable mention for TSE. Looks like a commercial package is coming soon so that will be interesting to see. Their freeware high gain model from a year or more ago was one of the better ones I'd heard.

Overall vote in this case goes to Guitar Rig 5. Really intuitive interface and has a lot to offer across the spectrum of gain. If you were more high gain focused, I'd point you towards Overloud TH2 instead.
