Not to threadjack, but I was under the impression that it's better to keep them in cases. I know it's a pain and it takes up a lot of room, but am I wrong?

I've had mine hanging for 7 years...but its a very environmentally controlled room and my kids all know they are totally off limits, never an issue...the case is more for protection than anything else...they sit on hangers at every music store I have ever been to so other than physical protection I have NEVER seen or heard of any ill effects of hanging them. As long as the room isnt too dry or too humid, and there is no danger of them being knocked off the wall I can think of absolutely no reason not to hang.

I used to love the Hercules stuff until one of them just fell off the wall and did some heavy damage on the guitar that was hooked on it  .

I'm going to guess you either:

A. Missed the stud.
B. Drilled the holes too big
C. Live in an area hit by an earthquake
D. All of the above.

I have a dozen of the off the wall brand hangers. As RedRider says, they mount with 3 bolts and secure as shit. I never tried to do pullups on em but I bet I could :)

I mount most of my Hercules hangers with drywall anchors instead of screwing into studs, and have still never had a guitar fall.

Hercules. I use extra long screws into the studs to make damn sure they're not going anywhere

I do something similar, but I use the slatwall version of the hercules hangers. I use the metal channel reinforced slatwall strips and have them very securely anchored to the wall into four studs - it's not going anywhere! These are the strips I use and have been very happy with them. http://diamondlifegear.com/slatwallstrip.html

Same here, I have them hanging high enough so the really young kids can't reach them. Basically by the time they are tall enough to reach them they are also old enough to understand the don't touch rule. If they are all in the cases they just don't get played that much so I like to keep my favorite players hanging in easy reach and I find I use them a lot more that way.
