Has anyone had a chance to try one out yet? Looks killer...complete with killer(literally) pricing

Been wondering about this guitar, too. It's as if it fell off the radar. I remember hearing back when Guthrie hooked up with Charvel that some guy from Charvel was trying to get back at John Suhr. Not sure that's true of course.

insane price but not unlike the pricing on the Suhr's
yea, but the Charvel Guthrie is a production line guitar...not built by the custom shop

I don't think that's true.

They're back on the RADAR now - Musiczoo had a few prototypes through 6 weeks or so ago, and now they have production guitars in stock. I believe the delay was something to do with change of body wood (baked on the proto and unbaked now, or vice versa) and something to do with the bridge / arm assembly..

No, that isn't correct. It is built by the Custom Shop guys.

The necks are baked on every one I've seen. The bodies are mahogany and are not baked...

Spoke to a guy at The Musiczoo about these. He said the prototype was unroasted basswood, the custom shop has roasted basswood topped with unroasted maple.

I stand corrected. Never heard of roasting bodies before... Still, these are made by the CS guys...

Suhr has been doing it for a little while now.

The top on that Music Zoo one is a little underwhelming and kind of furniture looking IMO. The bobbins look fantastic though.

I had a chance to play one of the production models recently and was pretty underwhelmed compared to my Suhr custom modern. The craftsmanship was passable and everything was well fitted but the finish work was sloppy. They also seem to be coming out of the box with minor dings and dents in the back of the body because the basswood is so soft. There were also obvious uneven smears of tru-oil on the back. The neck wood and top wood were great although I didn't like the feel of the neck as much as the feel of my Suhr neck. Its much more of an Ibanez type shape than the Suhr modern elliptical shape. The attention to detail on the fret ends and rolled edges were also lacking for what I expect on a $3500 guitar. I'd strongly recommend a Suhr or Anderson over the Charvel if you're going to spend that much money. I'd love to see a $1000 version of this guitar and I'm sure charvel could make it happen as finishing is where all the money usually goes and these guitars have pretty much no finish anywhere. One quick wipe with some oil and thats it.
