Damm that's good. Every note hit there was perfect.

The sky is green and the grass is blue......and Guthrie Govan sucks. ;)

If I had any one criticism, it would be to focus on playing one note with more power. Stronger vibrato.

Similar to the way Bonamassa or Beck would play over a similar groove.

Just a thought.

His timing is ridiculously amazing-- indicating his concern, not just w/ the notes but the spaces in between them too.

The only thing I could say that was a negative, would be in terms of some of the "songs" longevity, but as for technique, expressiveness, style (or no limit, apparently-- as it pertains to style). This guy is better than just about EVERYONE. As to stylistic preferences, that is always a personal thing.

I love the fact I can hear a LOT of Zappa in his playing.

Lots

It would be that I will never, ever be able to play nearly as good as Guthrie. Ever.

If that was basically improvised, I must say that... sometimes, I don't know whether some people are simply too good at jamming or I suck so big time that I find those licks jaw-dropping. :D

I thought this bigger point was awesome, as to establishing some relevant perspective.

+1 with a great sense of humour to boot

put on an aristocrats show last year , not a huge fan of the cd, but it's an incredible live act ridiculous chops and you get to see how they interact together, really worth seeing live if you get a chance

He's my favorite player these days. He comes off as a cool dude and has a great sense of humor too.

I just recently started getting into him. I used to be more versatile in a lot of different styles and I love how versatile this guy is....makes me want to go back ans get out of my comfort zone and play different styles of music again.

I dunno... I think he's a great songwriter in addition to his dazzling ability on guitar.

Most of the things of Guthrie's on YouTube are just jam tracks he's playing over (including the OP's vid), not real songs, so I wouldn't judge them. I'm not a huge fan of the compositions on the first Aristocrats album (although they are growing on me), but, damn, I think the songs on "Erotic Cakes" are incredible. Definitely memorable stuff to me that I go back to and listen to again and again. Of course... YYMV. :)

From the first time I saw this guy play live years ago during NAMM at the old Tone Merchants, I've been a fan. Really, I'd say he's the first player I'd consider a "guitar hero" of mine since EVH. Of course, I love a lot of other players who came before and after Eddie, but Guthrie is the first one that really caught my ear as someone that I wanted to try and figure out what he was doing. It is really his phrasing that blows me away - very un-guitarlike at times, especially when he really gets flying. Love that stuff - can't and will never be able to play it, but love it! :D

I do not really care for Guthrie's music, and I have spent quite a bit of time listening to his various projects trying to find something I like.

Although, as well schooled and expressive as he is, I am positive that anything he plays is exactly the way he wants to play it.

Very stiff, very controlled, lacks a lot of soul. No fire and definitely super sterile.
Give me something that ROCKS man.
All this clinical playing is just boring.

Although he shreds and I Love that he is super good, he never throws down, it's always this super controlled kind of thing. Gets boring...

I tend to agree and for me the thing that makes me have to listen to him in doses is IMHO he doesn't have a very unique voice on the instrument. The coolness of the extreme technical prowess that Guthrie has wears really old really fast with me..... having a more unique voice goes a lot further in keeping me engaged.

All that said he BY FAR blows my shit out of the water so MUCH respect his way.
