Guys, settle this argument for me. Avenged sevenfold content

okay. here's the deal. A friend of mine says that synster gates is one of the most developed and amazing guitarists in the world. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, using youtube videos or any other kind of example, can you prove that avenged sevenfold are not the best band in the world. I know he's entitled to his opinion, but this is just insane.

That being said, I do like the new cd they released.....mainly for the singer....I dig his pipes. And they can write good songs when they try. But Synester Gates' skillz? :thumbsdown:
 
he's a really good guitarist with good phrasing. not amazingly godlike, or 'kick the shit out of anyone' good, just unique. i might get slammed, but he kinda reminds me of marty friedman, just not as good, but he still is a good player with a kickass signature guitar.
 
He's an alright lead player, but definitely nothing special. No signature sound or style at all. Tell your friend to go listen to some guys like Michael Schenker, Gary Moore, Guthrie, John Norum, etc.
 
...wow...I guess I would settle this argument by making him prove to you that he is the "best bla bla bla" because he can't...its a rediculous statement, then I would get new friends...but that's just me lol jk

Seriously, i think those guys are ok players, but there are some posters right here on the forum that can toast those guys. They are absolutley nothing special. Your friend must be young.

i would really like that band if it werent for the vocals. theres just something about the tone of that guys voice that doesnt sit right with me
 
Your friend must be a noob. Every kid in the world could play as well as that monkey back in the 80's. He sounds like CC from poison. That shit he starts playing in the youtube vid around 1:40 sounds as bad as the Yngwie/Vai parody vids. Play your friend a vid of Guthrie quick before he's ruined for life.
