love em hate em whatever BUT at least their IS solos and guitar on the radio and i do think they are a really big reason. they have made it fashionable to actually learn to play your instruments, we can all argue over how well but im thankful i can hear solos on my local modern rock radio station.

i would really like that band if it werent for the vocals. theres just something about the tone of that guys voice that doesnt sit right with me

The whineyness, perhaps? That's what I don't particularly care for.

i didnt wanna say it, but thats exactly it hehe..

Do this. Give your buddy the newest Between the Buried and Me cd. It's called Colors. After he's listened to that entire CD, then ask him his opinion on Avenged Sevenfold again.

I hear you man, I don't like dogging other players, but there's definitely a whiney characteristic in the way he sings that kind of bugs me. I think they have some pretty cool tunes though. I've only heard one of their CD's, something City or City of something or another...

Actually? Nevermind. FUCK this suggestion.

Three guitarists: Shawn Lane, Greg Howe, and Alan Holdsworth. After he's heard THOSE guys, he'll probably sit in the corner and just start crying.

Just make him listen to any avenged sevenfold albums that should be enough proof

I agree completely. I'm not a big Avenged Sevenfold fan, but I did borrow their DVD that came with their newest CD and must say it got me excited.

It was really cool watching the vid of them in the studio and talking about the Rev's double ride thing in "Almost Easy" and the guitarists solo in "Afterlife". I saw guys that were excited about pushing themselves as MUSICIANS, which earned my respect. I don't think the dude is the greatest thing in the world, and doesn't compare to the legends, but I do respect them.

cheers. See, i dont think their complete crap, but to say that "syn" is one of the best guitarists in the world today is complete and utter crap. I usually just shutup, but after about 500 rounds of him saying it, it got a little out of hand.

he's 17, fwiw. Damnit, their now supporting Maiden at twickenham

DUDE! For a while, I swear I thought it was one of those overdub videos made to make fun of guitarist (e.g. jp, malmsteen)

Wow.

EDIT: Have nothing against Avenged Sevenfold btw. But that video sucked major ass. There's only one thing that i hate more than pointless shredding. And that's pointless shredding that sucks.

Have him listen to Sikth, a song called Bland Street Bloom. Then, have him watch this video. These guys are fucking insane. The way they intermingle the rhythm and the tapping lead part in the "chorus" of the song is crazy. They don't split off and have one guy play the lead and one play the rhythm...they both play both parts.

I guess I'm the only one that doesn't think that sucked major ass. I'm not saying it's the best by any stretch of the imagination, but that's better than ANYTHING I've ever heard by CC Deville, Tom Morello, Kirk Hammet, etc... Heck, that's better than EVH is playing nowadays too (in my opinion.)

I did not think that solo was bad as well, not Gilbert accurate but I have heard far worse. The tapping part maybe should have been left in the warm up room but the rest was pretty solid playing imo.

I like A7x's cd stuff, but that guitar solo video was pretty bad. I don't know if that is the guy that plays the majority of the solos on record, but it didn't sound like it. Is it possible the other guitarist is the better one?

Whoever plays on the cd has cool phrasing and decent technique, sometimes bordering on interesting and other times not. He even has a unique tone that doesn't bother me at all.

I like the singer, as well. He sounds like Graham Bonnet.

Of course, most of the other rebutle players mentioned in the thread are far better, but they wouldn't fit in that band. It's like saying Clapton sucked in Cream because Hendrix was way better....

Just my too scents.
