It’s an amazing record . Only kids shit on because Eddie hated it and said it all the time . He hated that half was covers

Amazing playing. All in the fingers. His rhythm playing is so busy that even his isolated tracks cover the ground of multiple instruments. Just plug in Dave's voice and it would stand on its own.

I can’t even play that riff with an open A, I have to keep the picking consistent by string skipping on both the A and the B bass notes. Switching back n forth is no bueno for me. There is still the C-chord in the break (pre-chorus?) that’s not string skipping but other than that I have to keep it consistent for any hope.

Anyone notice that it sounds like he is playing the song in one take. I dont hear any plug ins of riffs, solo, etc.
Also if that track was done today they’d (non specific they) be in their tweaking, punching and editing to make everything perfect and rob the track of any fun and soul. Using a D.I. To try 3 plugins before settling on the same one the last 4 metal records used.
I love how wild and imperfect it is because that’s the feeling the song gives you. It’s not a “watch me shred song”, it’s a “better fuckin’ hold on song”.

It also sounds less gainy which means he is working for it. The squish is still there no question though.... say it with me... variac'd and SLAVING.

Ben Eller did a lesson on this one and when slowed down he found Eddie was playing that sick riff with swing. I think that swing was just burned into his playing.

That riff is like a fuckin workout.
Yeah - that blew my mind ! If you don't listen closely enough, you can miss it
