Wait a minute?! How are you a Djent Scientist if this is your first ERG? :ROFLMAO:
Either way, welcome to the new world!
I was cheating. Ive been playing my 6 string in drop D, and using a Digitech Drop pedal to take it down to drop B. Which I do really like, as have worked on my the with that setup, and gotten it to sound damn good.
But I knew it was way past time to get a 7 and learn the ways of the Djent Djedi with a 7 string.

Godspeed!

One step closer. The Sentry was waiting for me when I got home.

Nice, I get it. I actually tune to Bb which is right on the border of keeping intonation, tension, etc. 26.5 scale would help.
I'm putting new strings on it today. NYXL 10-59 7 string set. With the 26.5" scale, I'm hoping it works for drop A tuning, which is what I will be using this beast for (AEADGBE). It came with 9-52 strings stock, but the 52 a little too floppy when I dropped it to A. Fingers crossed. From internet research it should work well on tis guitar without much work needed, maybe a slight turn of the truss rod and of some intonation adjustment.

Yeah, you'll probably need to intonate and adjust truss. Check this resource out: https://rodrigocfd.github.io/string-tension-calc/

It's really helpful for getting the right gauge. That set should be be good, maybe a little tight for my taste, but the low A looks a little floppy, if I plugged in all this right.

I have this 8 string set lying around with slightly different gauges. I’ll send em your way if you ever want to try them out

You can get NYXL singles at strings by mail if you need to adjust. Shipping stays the same if you order a few singles which brings overall cost down.
Where do you find singles?
In the future id like to use that string tension cachlator and create a custom balanced tension set that suits my needs after I figure out what exactly my tastes are.
I admit that I'm still in the begining stages and don't know exacty what I want.

Stringjoy has the option to make your own set. https://stringjoy.com/guitarstrings...ings/custom-7-string-electric-guitar-strings/
I use them and NYXLs mostly for my ERGs. Strings and beyond also sells individual strings.

*UPDATE*

So this guitar is getting returned to guitar center.

Not because there is anything wrong with it, it's a fine guitar for $200, in fact it's better than it should be for the price, way way better.

It's going back because I just learned last night that:

My wife is getting me a PRS SE Mark Holcomb SVN................
.

Congrats

Edit: Wait. OK, fun read but congrats on the PRS instead
Thanks man.
I can't even begin to express how stoked I am. I have to wait till Christmas to get to play it. She's ordering it on Wednesday.
It's a thank you gift for the last 2 1/2 years of me being there for her while she fought breast cancer. I'm pretty much speechless, this came out of the blue.
