What speakers are in the 1960?
You may want to try a different pickup too like someone suggested. The JB has it's moments of being very ice-picky.
Stock speakers, g12T75

Wow is the JB harsh? But I don't believe the pickup is the problem here.
Ive had gibson collection through the years and Ive tried them all, same problem.
No problem with a JB...it's a smooth pickup unless it is adjusted wrong.

You could also look into some transformer upgrades but I agree with the others. Start with the speakers.

Ok, here are a few replies and a few questions.

Greenbacks, aren't they 25w? My amp is 100w, and I believe I play pretty loud... so 25 x 4 = 100w. Today I have 300w

Caps checked by my tech

Regarding the V30, I've heard some are made in China and some in Uk, where do I buy those from Uk?

Yes. Unless you run the amp at really high volumes, the Greenbacks will be fine. However, there are alternatives out there that are higher wattage. They don't sound exactly like a greenback and have their own flavor happening. Scumback and Warehouse Guitar Speakers are places to look.

I can't say where to find them. Perhaps ebay? They will say Made In Ipswitch England on them, I think. You could look round for some used ones. They'll already be broken in or in the process.

I think I will order 4 scumback speakers M75, those aren't harsh?

I use M75's. They're great speakers and will help roll off some of the spike but I don't think they're the answer to your problem. Have you tried the head with other speakers/cabinets? I'd definately do that before investing in new speakers.

Not yet, but I will try 2 other cabs tomorrow, one of them is an older 1960 cab, dont remember the third one.
but i will check.

It sounds like you need an older 4x12 Marshall cab with 4 Celestion G12-65's in it. ;)

Made a quick recording today with my Jmp -> 1960 -> 57 and md421 -> Ensemble -> Pro tools

Gain almost max
Volume past 4
treble 2
mids 5
bass 4
presence 1.5

I still here that 3khz annoying tone. Or is it just me?

I think it sounds good! I don't hear anything annoying or harsh about it. I actually think it's too dark...

Nothing annoying at all. In fact it sounds great.

Oh really :) Thanks. That was just a quick test, I also had two Gik screen panels around the front of the cab.
Maybe the annoying spike was a little less now when cranked. But I still think the top end is a bit sizzly and
I want more chunk in the sound. Where to begin? Mod the amp or replacing the speakers? :)

That is the perfect tone for just pushing the front end with an overdrive pedal. It can be modded but I'd start with that. Try a Timmy, OCD, BB Preamp. Any of those would sound great.

If you are still interested, Celestion makes a Vintage 30 for Mesa Boogie that are made in the UK. They are available through them. I was told by a Mesa Rep. they are physically made different than the Chinese ones.

I would start with the speakers myself. I'm pretty sure the 75's weren't around when your amp was designed/built. Those are for the newer and higher gain marshalls in my opinion. I've always loved the Greenbacks with older Marshall based amps. I have the Scumback M75/J75 (65 watters) mix with my Plexi and they sound great. But there are other speakers out there that are cheaper.

But as good as Scumbacks? Im about to buy four M75's for my cab, but then of course I have to rip of the Marshall emblem ;)
