Has anyone modded their EG5?

I did the other day and I finally really like this module! I took the old 1000 cap that I swapped out of my EG3/4 and installed it on the EG5. Warms it up but it still cuts. I always fought with the EG5 because the tone was just a little too strident to my ears unless the bass switch was on 2 and the treble was way down with. Now I run it with bass boost off, Bass control at 1-2:00, Mid around 12:00 and Treble around 2:00. Sounds way good!
I always liked the gain character of the EG5 and the fact that even being higher gain, it remained tight. It was just to "spikey" This one cap totally improved it for my use anyways. It has a warmth to the overall tone and still cuts and sings. I like warmer tones and this definitely did the trick.
It might just be my ears playing tricks on me, but the 2 channels sound more different now as well. Before they sounded extremely similar.

Just wondered if anyone else has done anything like this?

I had it modded by Friedman...but didn't like it..and had it put back to stock. I love the EG5 stock. What you should try Scott...is do the "X mod" on the EG3/4...and put a 100pF cap in the treble bleed cap on the tube board. Holy hell...is that one killer module. I think that'd be PERFECTLY right up your alley. The EG34X is killer. Thanks to Nick for doing it on my EG3/4...as it's just plain amazing ! :)

Definitely makes it more "modern" and a bit more aggressive sounding. But still killer for soloing like the EG3/4 was. It's kinda like taking the stock EG3/4 and the EG5...and Jeff's XTC and throwing it in a big bowl...and that's what comes out. Tight like the EG5...a mix of the EG3/4 stock, EG5, and Jeff's XTC in terms of gain structure. More low mids than a EG5... Just thick sounding.

Can't wait for Jeff to try it out. I think he'll love it! :)

I know you dig the EG5, I've never really bonded with it in stock form. I really like it with this mod though.

I've thought about doing an EG3/4x , but I love my EG3/4 with the 500 cap on the tube board. I've been looking for a used EG3/4 to come along to do this on, but they get sold pretty fast. Sounds like I would like it. Anybody got and EG3/4 for sale???? :D

I hear ya man. Knowing what kind of styles / tones you go for...I think the EG34X would be more up your alley than a EG5 modded anyways ;)

do you think that mod makes it sound like a mhg?

you guys are crazy in a good way .
I think you have X,d everything now have you not?
the SL2, The EG3/4 ,Bassman .have you done it to the Vx ..would figure it might make it a bit more Matchless (fender/vx hybrid)

I read Jeff added bassman controls to the Twin for Wilton .which I am assuming is similar by thickening up the midrange

do you think that mod makes it sound like a mhg?

No. Not at all. I had a MHG and wasn't a fan of it. No upper mids for me...and not tight enough for me...and didn't have the smoothness of the EG34X.

VX already has an similar, inherent "x-like" circuitry, to give it that jangle.
