i used to have the GCP GCX combo and it worked fine. didnt really notice any tone loss or anything. Its become the budget switching system as they can be found on the cheap in the used market. I've since switched to an RJM Rack gizmo which works a lot more efficiently. If you have the money or can save up for the rest i'd definitely go RJM but the ground control products will work fine.

sweetwater carries both ,so im curious as to which is a easier system to work and setup..or which is the better unit

Right here... the only thing I'd say is that the Patchmate 8 has a slight advantage over the GCX in that the PM8 has on/off buttons on the front panel for manual operation. The GCX has to be programmed and is only controllable from an external controller.

I love the simplicity of the RJM stuff. I have a mastermind and the RG-16 and they work very well together.
The GCX works best with it's own controller. It requires a bit more programming skills but in the end it serves the same purpose.
Once they are programmed, they work equally well.

Yeah, definitely worth going for the RJM effects gizmo from what I've heard. That's the route I'd go.

Agree...I've used, my GCX for years. No issue's. Absolutely no point in me switching to the RJM stuff. I actually like the routing layout better on the GCX. As you said, a step more programming on the GCX...that's about it. Friend of mine uses the RJM...both are a quality product. Can't go wrong with either.philb":1k071xq9 said:

what about the midi pin for hooking the units up.? after some research ive found rjm makes a mesa interface cable or is a 7 or 8 pin midi cable the same thing

The RG-16 is split in two. The first part is audio loops while the other is the amp control functions. The mesa cable is not midi. It's just a cable to allow the unit to control your amp function such as channel selection, loop, eq or whatever (up to 8 functions).
The 7 ping midi is used to carry power via the cable so you don't have to plug anything up front. I use it and works really well. So on the floor, I only have this.

I had the GCX and switched it out for the RJM unit. One of the main advantages is programming. The RJM gets programmed like the old Octopus units. You set the front panel to whatever config you want and then hold down the store button, all leds flash, and your done. The GCX you need the footswitch to store presets which can be a pita at times. Both will do fine but the RJM has the edge with programming.

Ive had the GCX/GCP combo for years and its a super solid unit. For the money there's nothing better available in that price range IMO.
