Has the new Ibanez Jem been discussed yet...

It's like they're trying to give a fun guitar a makeover so it can be respectable but all they've done is put the rocking guitar in a brown corduroy jacket with patches on the elbows. If I was going to pick up a "woody" type guitar it would probably be one of these:

The gears on the pickup covers?

Looks like a bad tattoo

I'm no designer, but I can tell you the gears do not tie into the theme of this guitar. Very strange. Not in a cool way. Looks like some high school design experiment gone wrong. :scared:

Those are just the standard covers for the dimarzio dark matter 2 pickups. But yeah they don't really fit the organic viney leaf motif going on there. Meh...

People still play those? Buy them?
I've never seen one on a stage with the exception of Vai himself.
Not a stadium, theater, club, corner bar or backyard party.
This guy, lol.

Don't care for this. I really liked the Seafoam Jems but apparently a lot of them had issues.

Who's that? I still haven't seen one on stage.

if making the shittiest looking guitar ever was what they were going for, they succeeded

That looks horrible. Like others have mentioned, nothing matches. My least favorite of the whole thing is the pickguard. It looks like the bathroom wall in a Flying J truck stop. The only thing missing is a "glory hole".

it's really a lifetime guitar. the matching headstock, and pick guard are gorgeous. online photo's do not do this justice.
i just bought one, and it's an amazing guitar. the setup is out of control. ibanez went to the next level on this.
the laser etched pickup covers are so fun to look at. the mahogany body's finish is so sexy. my wife thought it was
a work of art when i brought it home. the volume and tone knobs are made of wood, and they are so smooth,
and have terrific control over the sounds.

the pickups offer a really great dark warm tone, not the standard twangy sound of the past few jems i bought;] the blue floral jem, TWICE,
the first one i thought was way to bright, and i thought it was a dud, got another and and returned it after a few days, was really unhappy with it.

the "woody" reminds me a lot of the 'root beer' jem from many years ago. the sound is warmer than most jems, and doesn't have that ultra sparkly high end.
the harmonics are gorgeous.

this is such a welcome departure from the signature white jem.

i'd like to have the last four frets scalloped, i think Ibanez should have done that on these.

I played one (the woody) at a Guitar Center and really liked it. I loved the look and feel. I would love to have one, but I have too many other things I want in that price range to justify it.

when I was at Vai academy my roommate had one of these. I dug it! I actually bought a couple of the Dark Matter 2 bridge pickups to put in my 2 main guitars and these are my current fave pickups. they are very warm and clear at the same time. But jeez they are expensive like $140 a pop - wish I could buy without the cover just to lower the cost. but I really like the woody jem.

Steampunk and Vai is not an association I would make.
The guitar on its own is OK but just a little bit too gaudy: fingerboard with dot inlays or no inlays would be my suggestion... that nobody cares about .

i think gears are more related to 'time', vs. steampunk. like how watches move.
