I saw them on the Chaosphere tour, and I totally concur. They opened with Future Breed Machine. Man was that a killer show.

How about when they play "Bleed" and make it look easy...Fuckin sick....

I could only get into their very first album, contradictions.... The offtime odd meter 9 stringness is very cool, yet there's something about it that borders on the complicated, where although each song is different and beyond that they begin to collide, careen and entangle into each other. Haake, if still drumming here is to me the best there is in this genre as is the rest of the band. It is in a way very CRAzy music. Not sure, but I think it would be cool asaiac to hear these guys pull it back just a tad on an album. I'll wait and listen to the rest to see the whole picture. Devastatingly heavy without question.

Haha, I could tell it would be Meshuggah when I saw the topic title.

Some cool bits in there. They're timing is interesting, but at the odd timing ruins the groove in certain places, IMHO. No real hooks or flow in the riffs or lyrics; just seemed like random things strung together and called a song.

It's not that I dislike modern metal in concept, but I just dont like how it's executed. Make it catchy! It can still be super dark and gloomy and heavy. But it should stick in my head after I've listened to it. Not a single riff or lyric from that was memorable to me.

I remember reading the reviews when Destroy Erase Improve came out, and having to have it...and being completely disappointed. Gave Chaosphere a shot too, and more of the same. This doesn't sound any more interesting now than it did then. No matter how complex it may be, it just bores me to sleep - the drums even more so than the guitars.

I totally agree with the post above - just nothing that sticks with me long enough to want to hear a second time.

Massive down-tuned low string stuttered chugs...thrilling!

this is the type of music i love. love when it's heavier and slower and more chugging and a little less math.
Cave-Dad Metal at it's finest, and proud to say i fucking LOVE IT!!! AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHH!

They used loads of different amps at the same time and dropped them in and out for different tracks and parts according to an interview I read recently.

Sounds really good and the last few albums have been brilliant, so they're on a bit of a streak it seems!

I'm glad the thread isn't misleading as there's no Metallica news here.
Metallica, heaviest band? The only thing heavy about Metallica is their wallets.

I guess "heaviest" and "good" don't have to coexist.

No kidding. I don't get most modern metal. I can't decide whether I want to slip into a coma or projectile vomit with most of it.
