Go with the mini. I've had the original and now I have the 100w III. My buddy has the 50w. I can tell you the III kills the original in every conceivable way. Yes, the original has more gain, but that gain isn't really usable after 7 or so. On the 3, you can dime the gain and it's still usable.
+1 , totally agreed.

5150 half stack definitely worth $800. I'd go for that. But I'm biased. Flat out beast. But if you need more than one sound mini might be the ticket. Or just for bedroom jamming and what not, I'd definitely go for the mini

Bedroom jamming!?! Nah... there is A LOT of headroom in a 5150 III 50 watter. I turned down the volume during our last set using one, not because the sound guy told me to but, because I overpowered the stage

As a matter of fact, when I first got it, it lasted in my bedroom for one day. Then it went to the living room as its too loud for the bedroom. Now it's my preferred rehearsal/live head (with or without using an Axe-FX II).

So I definitely vote 5150 III 50 watter!

I like the tightness, voice, and compression of the 5153 over the previous 5150 editions. That are more looser and open to me. But thats my opinion. Alot of guys like the old 5150's and achieve good sounds with them.

I meant it will sound better at low volumes if that's all your doing. I realize the 50 watter more than enough to play gigs. 5150 at bedroom levels is a waste really. :)
