Help me choose best CE-2 clone analog chorus

I'm leaning towards an analog man but also very interested in the CMAT CHORUS with the mix knob. I need a chorus that sounds killer with gain. Some do and some do not. The strymon is not an option for me at all. I just grabbed a mint original japan cs-9 and even though it is. It true bypass and does not have a mix knob I just had to have it for the collection. I'm still looking into a ca-9 pro and an analogman too right now.

Are you speaking of the newer Taiwan CE-5's that you can just go to GC and grab???

I am up in Montreal visiting my mom right now and I found a used japan ibanez CS-9 that is like brand new for 149.00 canadaian. About 142.00 us around? I can't wait to get home to try it

I might have paid too much for it though. It is like new so I went for it. They have another dead mint ibanez AD-9 dealy Japan for 200 bux but I think that is very over priced. I'm not 100% up to speed on pedal prices and eBay is so screwed up with all there fees people are wanting a fortune there so I do to know if that is a good representation of the market.

Buy the ce2 and get a blender pedal. Like one control or radial. The real thing is the best.

Yup. People have been using them for decades. They are not as lush as the ones mentioned for cleans but are more narrow and work well with gain.
I do want to pick up a CE-2 as well.

I do prefer digital effects for the most part over analog. Particularly delay. I like a clean, pure repeat. Do not like saturated repeats. I just mention that as reference.

This is what you need, mine has a three way depth and internal mix control. Best analog chorus pedal I've ever had and can have two different settings. You can also get it with the stereo option

I have this with the 3 way bass shift switch, stereo out and top jacks. Side jacks are another option. Love it. It has the New Old Stock (NOS) Panasonic MN3007 chip.

I stupidly sold an old Ibanez CS-9, just 2 knobs, but a great pedal. Bought a few in between, but ended back up with a Maxon CS-9pro, which gets close enough to the CS9 for me and has a few more options.

And if you keep and like the CS-9, it doesn't really matter what you paid.

Funny, I don't like the real CE2.

I prefer a good buffer over true bypass any day of the week. True bypass is over rated.

The CMATMODS is too bright and harsh at times. My least favorite.

Love the Jacques Meistersinger cause it has an amazing bypass, complexity transparent, works with gain.

Catalinbread Castillo is amazing and has thickness control ro adjust for gain.

Mad Professor Electric Blue is designed for gain and is subtle but it is digital.

You say you don't want any cheap stuff, but do give the cheapest of the cheapo Danelectro Fab Chorus a whirl. It has a Mix control, which a lot of chorus effects DON'T. That's worth it alone just on that aspect.

The only reason I don't have one, is that I have enough chorus already.

How did you set the CE-5?

Are you saying that a "colder" sounding chorus actually works better with a higher gain sound? Is it a frequency range or "comb filter" issue?

I've had a dozen or more boutique and high end chorus pedals make their way onto my board and back off again. What's there now? My old 80's CE-2...there are no substitutes. True bypass is highly overrated...more of a marketing tool than anything a player needs to actually be concerned with. Players need to use their ears and stop taking internet chatter as gospel.

I have the Analogman Mini with mix knob. It sounds GREAT. I want to do a shootout between it and the MXR though because honestly, I don't hear the $150 difference.

You are correct. The MXR analog chorus is the best for the money. I have a hard time spending for an Analogman considering how great the MXR sounds, and it works well with gain, warm, rich, can be subtle to extreme. Having an EQ and level is great. One thing I would love is a density or thick control.

I never like the original CE2. There are so many better choruses today. CMATMODS was not my thing.

The Meistersinger is a great analog pedal and does seem to have a nice bypass. After the dls chorus/vibe, I am pretty much done with digital chorus pedals.

As for true bypass versus buffer, for me I wish all pedals had a buffer or true bypass that you could switch between. Too many buffers is not good, same with too many true bypass pedals.
