Help me decide... Mesa Roadster vs Vht G100cl

I'm looking to buy a second amp to compliment my xtc. I've owned many rectos before and like the saturation, I've also owned a vh4 so I know all about the fast attack dry thing and I like it. Help me make a decision rt!
 
The Roadster is a fantastic amp!!! Sounds incredible good and works perfect with any kind of pedal. This amp sounds almost like produced.
 
VHT all the way. Out of the 20 or so amps I've owned, including mesa, I regret selling my VHT clx the most. Just a brutally tight aggressive amp that is built like a tank. Had a great clean as well
 
Another vote for VHT.

Just my opinion but most of the time. A mesa is a mesa and you can spot it a mile a way.

A VHT on the other hand is very different, can get amazingly brutal with the right tubes and I just think its a better sounding amp.

It has more of a short bark if you will vs. the long growl that mesa has if that makes any sense.
 
Both are nice, i personally would rather have the roadster.
 
Are you getting it just for the gain channel? If not, then the Roadster has a lot more versatility on demand with it's 4 channels. The Pittbulls don't have dedicated clean channels either. I'm not sure how picky you are about them, but if you do a lot of clean playing the Roadster is probably the better choice.

If you're just interested in gain then you have to decide if you want super dry, and ridiculously tight, or the big recto/boosted recto sound.
 
I just deliberated roadster vs. einstein and einstein won (great ebay deal!)

I just saw helmet live and they use Fryette Pitbull. kicked ass hardcore. it does bark, but growling seems more intimidating. also heard that VHT's (Fryette's) are less forgiving so you have to play/execute much better or mistakes are exposed easily.

do you want loose and boomy for rhythms? then recto. caveat emptor: i've owned a RK1 but never played a VHT/fryette.
 
btw, it's nice to play kind of blue using recto-tracking with roadster, not sure if Fryette/VHT have recto tubes (sag).
 
I'm not a fan of either
The XTC is dark
The Roadster is also kinda dark and can get muddy
The VHT is tight and in your face (although toneless, but that's just personal opinion)
If you want something different, I'd go VHT, believe it or not
 
ive owned both of those amps and I would get the vht...although it is a very unforgiving amp, if your playing is on point sounds amazing ,if your playing is sloppy you are screwed...
 
I personally would go with the VHT/Fryette as to me their amps are on par with Bogner tone and quality wise but way different. It is a very tight, articulate amp but is also crazy responsive to picking dynamics and your guitars volume control. For me that is what you buy an amp for, the Mesa isn't bad in that regards but the VHT/Fryette stuff imho is about as good as it gets. Whether you dig the tone or not I can not comment on but to me it's one of the best out there.

I have a VH4 and use a Roadster with it in stereo, sounds absolutely amazing. That would be my recommendation.
 
Other than the 3rd channel, is there a difference between the g100cl and the 100clx?

They're essentially the same amp except the CLX has a dedicated clean channel.

Oh, my vote is for VHT.
XTC/VHT pairing for the win, both amps have their own sonic qualities that won't step on the other.
Bogner's chewy low mids, VHT's tight aggressive roar.

Together they sound monsterous :rock:
 
Running a Tremoverb and VHT CL/50. Very flexible rig. 6l6's in Tverb, El34's in the Pbull. V-30's in both cabs. I may look into a VHT cab as that's a preferred match around here. Good luck!
