Just got a splawn 212 a few days ago with smallblocks and I hate them, of course im a V30 guy! So will be going with one V30 or vet30 from GHS but dont know what to pair with it. Ive got a 412 with 30/75 x that sounds great with my splawn quikrod but dont think this would work as good with a 212. I play metal/hard rock so want a huge thick tone but has to be articulate and defined. Would a Vet30/Et-65 combo get that? Suggestions?

Trade you your smallblocks for the gov/mow that are in my splawn 2x12

i recently picked up a whitebox 212 and am LOVING the wgs et 65 / vet 30 combo. it will def cover the music types you listed. they are very articulate with tons of mids and highs.

also have you ever tried k100s? i have a quad of them in my avatar cab and love them too. tons of bass, not as much mids though.

i'm getting a mako cab soon, i plan to try some different combos with 2 k100s.
Yeah im thinking hard on it. I had K100/v30 x in a 412 for a few minutes, not for me

Man i thought of that too but H30 is a 30watt speaker right? What is it closest too, a greenback?

Ok the V30/H30 sounds like a great proven combo but im using a 100watt quikrod so im a bit worried about the power ratings of the cab. I know man people say as long as you dont dime your amps you should be ok but the splawn really likes some volume and I like to open up my amps some when im playing. This is one of the reasons for purchasing a 212 because when the quikrod starts hitting some sweetspots its getting pretty loud using 412's

Interested in what you didn't like about the eminence drivers?? I have heard that a lot of people rave about the WGS because they fel broken in but overtime they can become too soft. Take that into consideration too..

I don't like V30s in Splawn cabinets. I believe they are a very poor match. IMO, Greenbacks sound better in there (Chinese variants).

Honestly i feel that the smallblocks sound kinda hollow. There is plenty of bass but kinda wooly not as edgy and definitely dont seem to track near as fast as say the V30's.. hard to explain

Yeah i think thats pretty much what to smallblock is supposed to be right? A higher wattage greenie?

A Small Block is supposed to be modeled after a Scumback M25 last I heard, so yes, some sort of a Greenback. I don't like ANYTHING Eminence makes, so I would say a Celestion variant, especially something without those Pre-Rola mids should do the job.

Yeah ive come to the conclusion i have a strong dislike for eminence. I hated the P50's in my VHT and dont like the SB'S. When i run my quikrod through my mojo 412 with v30/75 x pattern overall I like the sound but kinda wanted to try something different and i dont think that same mix would work in a 212. I didnt want to do 2-V30's in a 212 because i think that would be overkill with the QR. Was hoping the H30 might add a touch more bottom without being mid scooped like the 75. Guess i'll just waste some money until I find the magic combo.

Interesting.. in the side by side comparisons, I also found celestion to have more definition. This often means when not recorded, more highs and beaming highs. So eminence seems to have tried to tame highs with their speakers thus making people feel as if they are bass heavy. I might suggest now discontinued eminence Super V's. I think these are the exception. Great crunch , mids, and highs without booming lows. As for the 2 x 12, I think you should try celestion lynchbacks. They are a slightly scooped greenie mixed with a v30 from what I understand. This would give you more midrange than the v30/g12t75 you are currently running. This might be the ticket!

Yeah thought about the Lynchback as well. I think its that bite/crunch you mentioned im missing

Vet30/ET65 or V30/H75 Scum, my favorite combos for 2x12s, although I tend to like the vet/et more for classic to hard rock and the V/Scum for hard to heavy stuff, has a lot to do with the cab and I have no exp with the Splawn cabs though.

The small Block is supposed to be like a Celestion Heritage
