what's in your 4x12? V30s?

Are you looking for something a lot different than what you've got now?

How much mucha $$$ do have to spend?

I actually prefer the guv'nor / mano wars in my Splaw 4x12 paired with an older QR.

How about a v30 with a cl80 or mesa c90?

Hey Keith, hows it going bud? Ive got V30/75's in an x pattern in my 412 and I like that combo pretty good just wanting to try something different in the 212 i guess. As far as cost im fairly open especially since I have no problem buying used speakers I just need a 212 to sound really big not super modern but not real creamy either. I like aggressive/punchy speakers and Im finding apparently I like a brighter tone than most

Hi Dan, we're starting a Blues band with most of my old bandmates. Missing a Bass player ATM but I think Monday a guy's coming over. We'll see.

Right now I've got my 2x12's loaded with t75-v30, vet30-retro30 and V30-et65. Also, I have some Govnrs and MOW (and others) sitting on the shelf we could try. You're welcome to come over and try my cabs and if you like bring your cab and we could load her up and check it out.

Thats really cool of you man. Ive got a hectic work schedule for the next 3 weeks and then ive got a little time off so maybe I could come up, sounds like fun. Im really thinking hard on a retro 30/reaper 50 or maybe a scumback H75/V30 or retro 30. Whats your take on the retro as compared to say a V30? So many people hate the V30 because of the mid honk and thats what I like about em especially paired with a lower mid, more bass pronounced speaker. After comparing the smallblocks to the V30/75 combo I think its the fact that the V30 combo is so much punchier and more lively than the stock splawn, at least to my ears which may be the problem.... :D

I have all you listed but the Reaper 50.

I bought a Vet30 and Retro30 back sometime just to try. I was please with both.

Here's noodling with both in a Mesa 2x12, tracked at the same time. Amp is a 5150.

Vet 30

Retro 30

My schedule opens up the last week in June and the 1st week in July.

Man those clips both sound good, im torn. Which one have you found holds together/clarity under volume best?

I've not put them through the ringer so I'm not sure.
Ha ha I hear ya! Congrats on the blues band Keith I look forward to hearing some stuff!

If your open to the idea of trying something different, If you get a chance try some of the Peavey XXX speakers. When I had my Splawn, my friend brought over his Mesa recto cab that was loaded with 4 Peavey Sheffield XXX speakers. It sounded REALLY good with my Competition. I have a 4x12 loaded with them now( and 2 V30 loaded cabs also) and I'd say they kind of sound like a mix of a GT75 and V30. They don't have as much mids as the V30(my favorite speaker). They sound good with my Fortin modded VTM, but I like the V30's better. With my friends Marshall DSL that I've had hear at my house for a few months, I like the XXX's better. Maybe Lolzgreg can chime in as I'm pretty sure he has some experience with them and can most likely give a better description. They can be found for a pretty good price too. AND they're chrome.

Hmmmm... Interesting, thanks will look into

Well i Hope gibson08 is right. I just scored a scum H75 pretty damn cheap so i will probably try a V30 with it and see if that gets me where I want to be. Any other suggestions other than M75 to use with H75?

Yeah thought about the Lynchback as well. I think its that bite/crunch you mentioned im missing

You should get a pair of lynchbacks.

There are similar to V30s but the are VERY articulate and have crystal clear sparkly high end and great open mids. Very very good speaker imo.

Brighter than vintage 30s and with more bite.

Here is short clip i have recorded with my Zilla Fatboy with Lynchbacks

I'm a big V30 lover and own UK V30's, Chinese V30's, Retro 30's & Veteran 30's. So I would recommend both the Retro30 and Vet30 together. I did this in my 2x12 and it was really cool. It was like a SUPER V30 tone. Lots of mids, lows, highs, clarity and punch!

G12-65 user here. Try mixing one with a V30 flavored speaker. WGS et-65 is a cheaper version too.

CREAMBACKS!!!!!!! Just so SOMEONE here can tell us what the hell these are all about!!!!!

Thanks man. The benafit of having two in one cab is it can handle 100 watts no sweat. And you dont have to worry about one speaker over powering.

They would go sooooo well with a quickrod. I really like those amps.
