race, what does running it between 9 and 18 do? add more gain? i know it's an easily do-able mod..just wondering what it introduces sonically?

More clean headroom and a more "sonically open," less compressed feeling. I have the 18v mod in my BC Rich ASM running 81/81 (I use the neck quite a bit) and it definitely sounds more organic, like it's blended the best qualities of actives with the best qualities of passives. YMMV.

I have a set of DiMarzio Evolutions in my '98 Gibson Gothic Explorer. Quite honestly the thing rips. No shortage of power & clarity with them at all.

What do you think about Dimebucker ?

lawrence L-500xl

No , I'm interested in SD SH-13 Dimebucker. This is the same thing (I mean Dimebucker and L500XL) ?

no.

WAYYY different.

if you want the "dime" tone...dont bother with the dimebucker dude...it's shit.

the lawrence L-500xl is the way to go if you want that type of tone.

Which Lawrence do you mean ?
From what I know there are two versions:
1. The plain one - http://dcmusicstore.com/bill-lawrence-l ... ickup.html
2. With the : "Bill Lawrence USA" - http://www.gearhounds.com/billlawrencel ... black.aspx

i have the one with "bill lawrence USA" on it and i love it.

got it for 40$ about 2 years ago.
it's WAYYY closer to dime tone than the dimebucker. that thing...BLAH!!! stinky!

Can you describe it ?
As you know I'm gonna put it into explorer so probably I will not receive overbright tone. What about leads , harmonics ( pinch) etc ?

i have it in a basswood Ibanez. it's clear, well balanced between bass/mids/treble and gives up the harmonics and harmonic overtones, and pinch harmonics come easy. it's a great pickup for metal and rock...it cleans up pretty good with the volume knob.

it's not the best sounding pickup for clean tones, but it's not the worst. it mixes well with single coils though wired in parallel.

dont overthink it. order it from guitar center for 55 bux, if you dont like it send it back.
i wish i'd have bought both of the ones the guy had....i like it that much.

Thanks man , I will try to hear this pickuo before buying and probably I will try to get the plain version.

the plain version would work i imagine...not the same pickup though, dime used the "bill lawrence USA" version from http://www.billlawrenceusa.com/

not the other company's plain one (there are two companies that make BIll lawrence pickups), you'll have to do some research on it.

it's a 40$ pickup on ebay most times, if you dont buy it new.
if you want it new, it's 55$ plus shipping. i'd highly recommend this pickup if this is the tone you're seeking....

/my input

Look at this pic. I can't see "Bill Lawrence USA" on his pickup ...

There is enough space in Gibby explorer to mount battery for EMG? I don't want to mess around with making new holes or something ...
