Just to be clear, I worked with an audio PCB designer to do this. I designed the amp and built it point to point in prototype form as you know. He provided the expertise to do the PCB layout and chassis fab design based on my original drawings/ideas - we went back and forth on the PCB design a number of times deciding on component placement, trace placement etc. to maximize the design. He used AutoCAD for the chassis fab, SolidWorks to create a 3D model of the amp so we could see everything together and Mentor Graphics PADS for PCB design and schematic capture from my original revised schematics for the new design that were done in Eagle. Seriously expensive pro software for sure. I wanted to work with someone who had done a lot of audio PCB design rather than attempting it myself as a novice and it is working out great. We are definitely going to work together on some other new designs I have as well...

Dude, don't you know amps sound better when you draw them out on a drafting table with a tee square? Everyone knows Autocad amp blueprints don't sound as good. :lol: :LOL:

Actually, I just realized, I was wrong with my explanation. There are two independent preamps. The Plex preamp has three different saturation modes and one channel master. The Rod channel has 2 channel masters so you can use one as a solo boost. Each one of those Rod channel masters has three saturation modes, for a total of 6 modes for the Rod channel. You can foot switch the Plex channel, the Rod Channel and the Rod Channel Solo boost master. The saturation mode switches are not foot switchable, but you can set them differently for the Rod and Rod Solo masters, so in a sense, they are. The sat mode switch are DPDT On-Off-On. Maybe this drawing of the front and back panels and footswitch will help:

The locations are a tad different but the controls match the real amp...

Yeah that looks cool. That would still be 3 different tones that you can footswitch through. I never have much of a need for a true 3rd channel anyway. I just need a gain boosted version of my crunch channel. As long as the clean channel has its own tone controls, I'm all set.

You can pretty much set the amount of gain you want in the Rod channel for your lead and distorted rhythm (regular and Solo masters) using the two saturation and gain controls and then foot switch between them - for sure, that was the idea...

Yeah, that was one of the criticisms people gave me about the hand-wired prototype. People didn't like the idea that the channels didn't have their own EQs. I, honestly, did not feel it was necessary with this design, and, honestly, most of the people who had this complaint hadn't actually heard the amp, but I caved to the pressure... :D

Actually, I decided to go with two independent preamps instead of switching gain stages in and out to simplify the switching and when I did that, it was quite easy to add independent EQs so I did it...

I know it's kinda late in the game, but reaching around the back of the amp to adjust the overall master volume is a pain in the ass.......especially at a gig. Might wanna rethink that one. Other than that it looks great. :thumbsup:

It's staying where it is, it is a Post Phase Inverter master and that is the best place for it. It is supposed to be set and forget for a gig. The channel and Solo masters give ultimate control of all the foot switchable sounds and can be adjusted in real time on the front panel if needed. I bet a lot of people will set the overall master full up. It is really more for people playing at very low volumes...

I'm just posting these screen captures of the SolidWorks 3D drawing of the amp because I think it is the coolest thing I've ever sen. In the (free!) SolidWorks viewer, I can rotate it, zoom in/out, etc. All components are drawn to size. So cool:

i'd love to hear new clips of your prototype-your first one and james lugo's stuff was nice but i figure now you know the amp better and can dial it in with more care

do you still have any of your serious recording equipment--great river pre, protools, etc?

I have a direct track of my take on "Romeo Delight" and originally I was gonna reamp it with my proto...

Sure, I have everything - although I moved to Logic 9 and an Apogee Symphony system with an AD-16X/DA-16x setup... also added a Seventh Circle Audio box with 4 pres...

But, honestly, there isn't much point in recording more clips of the prototype. Everyone will want to hear the one they can buy. And there will be clips aplenty when it is available...
