Herbert: forget the midcut, eq in the loop is where it’s at!

I had a buddy tell me about this trick, and wow was he on the money. The midcut sounds hazy and fake by comparison. If you’ve never tried this with your Herbert, do yourself a favor, and throw a PARAMETRIC eq in the loop, and cut similar frequencies as the midcut, and prepare to be amazed. I honestly think this might solve the “it doesn’t cut live” issue many have had over the years.

I’ve read many times over the years that the Herberts midcut is about 400hz, with a 1.4 Q or so, but I find it kills much more of the frequency range than that. It kills the high end just by turning it on in my opinion, and by comparison, it sounds hazy and fake to me compared to eq in the loop. I use a empress paraEQ for this purpose, it’s the best eq I’ve used personally. I use a narrower cut about 4-500 hz and I can’t tell you how much happier I am doing this.

I can post clips for anyone that cares, it’s quite drastic. Just thought I’d share.

My brother got a mark V a while back, ive kept thinking of using a eq in the loop ever since. After reading your post id love to hear some clips.
