what changes would i expect if i went from all 6l6s to kt88s( i dont like el34s in herbie,i only like el34s in marshalls).......thx guys for your help

It's pretty interesting. A little dry and very precise on the low and highs. Big, loud, hot.... It's really hard to explain... It more so reacts differently to your playing. The only thing anyone will be able to tell you, and it be the same case for every person, is that it get's icepicky on the low and high end. Only way to find out is to try them because, like i said, it really depends on how you play. Try to see if a buddy has a amp with kt88s and some spares or old ones laying around. bias it up and get the basic idea of how it's going to sound and react to your playing before buying a new set. Keeping in mind , of course, that brand new tubes will sound better

I don´t like the KT88 any more. Way too sterile.
Why don´t give the KT77-JJ a chance ?
It´s further a very relaiable tube.

I will admit, I wasn't happy with my Herbert at first. Ch3 was so compressed that I found it difficult to play. I swapped out the winged C EL34's and put in 6 JJ KT88's. Big difference! The amp really opened up, much less compression, dryer less saturated tone, and very tight on the low end. Rhythm picking on the palm mutes is like an ice pick every time my pick contacts the string. That is EXACTLY what I wanted.

The down side is that the amp is now super loud, and it does take a considerable amount of volume to get it opened up and really start to sound good. Some might say the amp is too dry and "clean" sounding with 88's but I like it.

Thanks Peter, I was wondering this same thing for my Herbert.
Do you like JJ peramp tubes in a Herbert also or stay with Ruby's there?
