Anyone do this mix in a 4x12?
I've been wanting to try the V30 on bottom/GB on top configuration like the Friedman cabs.
Wondering if these blend better than if I used the Greenback RI's.
I've read that the Heritage (or EVH) has a smoother top and tighter bottom than the RI, so that's my reasoning here.
Amps would be Bogner Shiva EL34 & Shiva 20th. Thanks.

I would guess the v30s would overpower the greenbacks. V30 and g12h30s are a common pair, but I don't see many using v30 and greenback combo. Only one way to know, try it and find out.

Actually I use this combo alot and I love it. I have 2- 4x12 cabinets set up in X patterns. But my greenbacks are from the 70's. The vintage 30's add a bit of harshness to the sweet sound of the 70's greenbacks. Really kicks ass in a live situation. Cuts thru the mix like a champ. The V30's don't over power the greenies at all.

The Greenback/V30 combo in the Friedman cabs are V30 and Greenback Re-Issues, not the Heritage Greenbacks.

The V30's are 100db and the GB-RIs are 98db, so within Celestions limits of staying within 3db for speaker mixing rule of thumb.

The Heritage GBs are 96db.

I've got V30s and GB-RI running off of my BE-100, it sounds great. Also running Scumback BM75's in another cab.

Is the theory behind the V30 bottom/GB top because the V30's are louder, so you put then farther from ear level?
Or is it a heavy mag bottom, med mag top idea?

I don't know.
This is how Dave Friedman does it in his cabs.
Maybe post a question as to "why is it done this way instead of an X pattern" in the Rack Systems forum.

I would put the V30s on bottom because of the somewhat harsh sound they can have when in direct earshot. Greenies sound so much sweeter to me when standing in front of the speaker. Not sure what Dave's reason is but that would be mine.

I did it this way a couple of years ago and it worked well...higher powered on the bottom. I first tried to X pattern them and no go for me.
