Was playing around with some gainy rock tones between these two. Pretty sure you can hear the G string go out of tune half way through and some weird recording skips.

LTD EC1000 w/ Lollar Imperials and Two Notes Friedman G12-65 IR (though it sounds better in the room through my Scumback M75).

I liked the 1st one more. Sounded less muffled and more articulate.

Both tones are amazing though - you’d be hard pressed to be sad about either of them.

Tbh while I agree with your choice, the first one sounded to me like it just had a bit less bass and a bit more treble dialed in than the 2nd one, more than I felt it was "muffled".

That’s a fair point - I didn’t really put a lot of thought behind dissecting why, just that it sounded less muffled to me likely from the points you’ve made.

I agree with both of you, for in the room as well.

The Herman has a mid switch that when set to Lower is a happy medium between the two, and is usually how I use it 90% of the time (especially for more gain). Though before recording I had the gain way down for sparklier stuff so raised that mods switch, probably would have been a closer comparison if I had left it down like usual.

The bass/depth on the MCII needs better controls IMO. Think I read someone on here added a depth knob which helped a lot. Kinda want to try it.

How much volume were you pushing? I'm assuming you had a fairly even match? IME big amps like to be pushed at least part of the way to gain to maximize tone and things can change radically below/above those points and different amps will prefer to be run at certain volumes for optimum sound. My Twin will get progressively smaller and more thin sounding the further you dial it back below 4 on the volume. It seems like most 100 watters like to run at 6 or more....I usually am almost to 8 when I get the fattest/biggest tone.

Both of them sound pretty decent. I prefer the Hermansson for the same reason as others.

The volume in the clip matches in the room, so relatively close. The Wizard is a 50w and the Hermansson is a 100w JMP.

But I know what you mean, the Hermansson definitely sounds better with the master cranked where as the Wizard is power flexible in that department. Though both still sound pretty good even with the master at like 3.

I've got all my amps behind the Boss Waza TAE attenuator though, so it's usually more about matching all my amps to one level.

They both sound great tbh - if I'd be hard-pressed to pick one of the 2, I'd go with the first one because it's slightly more bright but that's just personal preference. They both rock.

I use a Gup Tech Quebec with my MC2. Adds the depth knob without actually having to mod the amp.

All 3 mid settings, but mind the sloppy playing. middle, low, high - in that order (with middle being the original clip in this thread).

There's also like 3 other different mid style switches on this thing though and TBH I haven't really bothered to figured out how they all interact (if at all).

Both sounding good. I wouldn't be able to decide between the two unless I heard some leads also.

While I'm not much of a leads guy, I don't think I'd use anything other than the low mid setting otherwise you're gonna get thin Jimny Page tele solos...which given Stairway to Heaven isn't a bad thing lol. So I guess just all preference at this point.

I do really like Wizards for leads more than anything else. Though IMO solos feel more pickup dependent than amp dependent.
