I ordered a 2x12 ATA cab from Woody Wolfe of Hermit Cabs back in August. Paid $1,400 (PayPal gift since he asked me to help him save on fees). Turnaround was supposed to be up to 8 weeks. After the 8 weeks, I contacted him and he told me it's gonna take 2-3 weeks more.

After a month later, I contacted him again and has gotten no reply. I call the company and it goes straight to voicemail! I'm so pissed!!!

What should be my next course of action? Don't know how good it'll do contacting PayPal since I used the "gift" option. Any help is appreciated!

It's totally worth the fee to have the peace of mind. About all you can do is wait and hope. You can hire a lawyer to send him a letter. That might encourage him to get you square. Otherwise, it's the court and you have no idea how squeezed that turnip is.

Good luck. I was one of the one's to get screwed by Faustine. Fortunately, my deposit was on the CC and they reimbursed it. Had they not? I'd be out that money.

The good old cameron business model.

You're right - paypal will not offer any help when using the gift option. It is exactly as it states - a gift option. Use only with people you know/trust and technically it exists only to offer money as a gift.

Most people use credit cards for large custom gear purchases. You can file it against the credit card PO and problem solved.

Your next course of action needs to be gathering dates and more information on said company. Find out how common this is and keep a head on your shoulders. Keep calling the number and have research to back up other existing numbers or alias's he might be using on gear forums to sell his product.

As a last resort contact the Better Business Bureau and file a claim against the company for stolen goods/property or falsifying the sale of a non-existing product. The problem here is that you paid for labor/work before it was actually done. I only trust companies like ESP, Tom Anderson, etc. that have a solid reputation to do this as it is too easy for someone to get screwed on the open market.

Good luck - hopefully he will come through and offer you a refund.

This is why you should NEVER use the gift option. Big deal, $42 is the fee on $1400. When you use the gift option you're pretty much screwed.

This....^^^^^

Any business person or dealership asking for PayPal gift should be reported to PayPal. It is bad business practice and unprofessional. This is the cost of doing business.

That said, too bad on your situation. His idea on ISO cabs was great and I was interested at one time. There is no recourse through PayPal. If you happened to have used a credit card on the PP transaction, then may you can go through them. PayPal gift means you just gave someone a $1400 "gift".

Find out everything you can about the business. Show up on his doorstep if a viable option. Send registered letters with signature verification and return receipt requested. Write everything down. As most have noted above, using PP gift has limited you to going the legal/lawyer route. The amount would qualify as small claims. In my experience, in small claims court, the person with the most and most credible documentation usually wins.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your woes OP. Hopefully you'll be able to pressure him into living up to his committment.

I'm not a business, but when I sell things I never sell them with the PP Gift Option specified. It's always regular PP as I want the buyer to have the peace of mind that they'll be protected. I just consider the regular PP fee the cost of doing business.

I've got to admit, it took a lot longer than I expected to see a post like this with some who used the PP gift payment, but I knew it was coming.

Hope it works out for you.

He's a member on TGP...maybe you could start a thread that politely reaches out to him and asks him to return your calls/emails since he's been hard to contact and your order is months behind. By keeping it matter-of-fact and not bashing or accusing him of anything, you should be able to pull it off.

By the way, do you have business and/or cell numbers for him? How have you been trying to contact him?

Hate to say it, but there are a lot of small equip businesses that are one man shops and that one man is terrible with the communication side of business (well, and on-time delivery). This wouldn't be the first time if the guy is still planning on delivering eventually, sees your thread and flies off the handle for you calling him a rip off.

Yeah that's worth a try. There are a LOT of people watching the TGP forum right now over the FSG (Fat Sound Guitars) fiasco.

Definitely would have to walk on eggshells, TGP would have censored his post above in favor of the builder due to their policies, maybe one of the reasons he posted it here.

Why the #@#% did you use the Gift Option?? ANY company/individual that asks me to use gift option throws up a huge red flag. If they can't handle the fees then they shouldn't be in business.

It's become commonplace to save money. I've seen people throwing that around on these forums for over a year now. I wouldn't touch it.

I think Woody died! Haven't heard from him since August.

A cabinet builder named Woody? Is that a joke? I never heard of them. What makes them any different from a reputable companies cab? I sure would not be sending him a "Gift"

I hope you get your cab or your money back. $1400 is a good chunk or change for a 212 cab. I checked the website and they direct you to facebook.

I checked on TGP and he does have an account there, you can try PM'ing him there.
