Pretty much this. I rarely buy new and when I buy its after holding out for that great deal. So when I go to sell it I am not losing my shirt. Bought a few cabs new and that is about all I have left of my new purchases.

New is new, used IS USED, period.
Like new, is STILL used.
Mint, is STILL used.

Maybe we could offer a rule of thumb, if there is such a thing, for users that could use some guidance on pricing their gear.
I have seen things go for really great prices here, and I appreciate getting a deal AND giving one. I was under the impression that's what forum members do for each other.
I agree with Mailman, if you REALLY want to move something, price accordingly. Give the deal and get it sold.

Of course, Rare and Unique items are exceptions, yet what might be a "reasonable" starting place for a used piece??
I am saying 25% off, 30%, off, 40% off.....not off retail, off street price!!!
What would be a good place to list at?
 
The over priced guys ALWAYS have this in their post:

I almost always ask if they'll take some stupid low price when I see that in their add. :lol: :LOL:

Yeah, or the endless "trade offers". I got two Japanese Super Strats offered for a Gibson Les Paul that I had for sale. As if I would be interested in those.
A friend got a trade in offer with Persian rugs (!!!) for a Strat he was advertising.

I'm all for free market supply/demand by the way...just that there are less incentives to give a forum classified your business with all the other markets out there. :)

Yeah, I gave a guy here a really good deal on a friedman modified marshall one time and just asked if he would give me a shout to buy it back if he ever wanted to sell it, I like trying things out and moving them along like a lot of folks here. Well in a few months I see it on ebay for hundreds more being sold by a different guy from this forum.... what a fucking dick. and lesson learned.

I hear you, it's like last year when stores were blowing out 2013 Gibson Traditionals for 1400 bucks. Next thing you know, they're up in the classified for $1950!

Sorry I didn't mean to sound so obtuse, just if I'm looking for a piece of gear Rig Talk classifieds used to be my first click where as now I cast a wider net that's all. :)

Also there are a small group of sellers here who I hold in high regard and would welcome future business with them anytime just a different climate now that's all. :)
 
I am probably guilty of pricing a little high most of the time. I usually try to start on the high end of market value when I sell something and pre-determine a number I won't go below. Like the Microphone and Motu I listed not long ago... $700 mic I listed at 500 to start, got 400 for it (not bad imo), and Motu is 550 new, listed it at 400 got 280. I see no shame in listing a tad high, but I agree some guys list for 300 or 400 more than anywhere else and it's like... dafuq you thinking?
 
One of the worst examples of this was a few months ago Wayne Charvel's son, I believe his name is Michael, had for Sale a Cameron CCV plus matching cab (fine tuned by Mark, dated and signed) for 10,000. Now, that's a tad high, don't you think?
(Talking about both Michael and the price)
