I have seen some people sell stuff for way too much money and I can never figure out why they price items so high? greed? don't want to lose cash on the deal? you are right though, if it is too much, it will just sit in the classifieds and never sell.

It's because they paid too much and think that because it's two months old it's new.

Pre-owned is not new, no matter how old it is. If you're one day past the return policy, it's not new. If I buy it from you and don't get a warranty, it's not new. If you really don't care if it sells, leave it at that price and watch it sit.

You're not fooling anyone, we know you told your wife you'd sell it. That's what the giant price tag is for, isn't it? "Sorry honey, people just aren't buying right now. Nothing I can do but keep bumping it." :D

I take a look at what you got, then I go over to the used section at guitarcenter.com and see it for hundreds and hundreds of dollars less, with a 30 day no questions asked RETURN policy.

time to price your sales accordingly. I don't need to pay YOU extra money because your selling your precious.

Do some research, see what sites like that and completed listings on ebay have those items going out the door for.

there is NO reason to buy it from you for so much more money.

If you keep bumping it and it sits there for ages its because your pricing sucks.

If your gonna post something in the classifieds, price it to move buddy.

end rant. :)
have a nice day.

:D

Some people just suck at selling. Don't be that guy. Don't suck so hard.

When I used to sell a ton of gear I would go to ebay or any other place that sold similar item....
find what I had sold for in the past few months and average it....LOW AVERAGE.
Then post it a little cheaper then that. Just to get rid of it and give someone a deal.
It was up to me if I wanted to entertain low ballers. ;)
But my sale price was usually well below norm so I never sat on anything or had tire kickers.
That....is how you sell (if you really want to move something) :D

Lots of truth in this thread. If it's not something rare or really unique, you have to be realistic about the price. That being said, I'll be editing my classified post.

There have been items on my local CL for up to and past two years. Unbelievable that people re-list things for that long with no price change.

Does it not occur to them that they are selling items for twice what they go or these days?

There is a new "Used Market" Don't buy it if you don't expect to lose your ass. As posted if it's not rare and desirable you will lose upwards of 30% or more off of what you paid new on resale. Is what it is. I price to sell, take my lumps, and move on. I'm not in this to turn a profit. Most of us are not pro's so it's more of a hobby just like any other hobby which costs money. A few do it for a living, some guys make a few bucks on shows on gigs, etc., but not the majority. And yes they are a lot of people all over in the resale game with their head in their rear ends. I just ignore it. If it's something I sometimes will let them know they are a moron in a nice way.

The wife says it has to go sale. $100 price drop! Last bump before eBay...PM's replied!

hey you, out there in the cold getting lonely getting old
can you feel me?

But it was only fantasy.
The [price] was too high,
As you can see.
No matter how he tried,
He could not [come down],
And the worms ate into his brain.

Wow you are generous mailman.

Myself, I price stuff at what the maximum the market is willing to bare. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean over inflated prices, but at a price it will move at but not be a great deal.

My personal favorite is local CL adds "it's like brand new and is only 6 months old and my price saves you the cost of sales tax!"

Wow you are generous mailman.

That's what used to be great about forum classifieds, and was more the norm in the past (imo).

Now people join the forum just to sell their overpriced gear.

The forum classifieds isn't the first place I look anymore if I want to buy something...

I still watch the classifieds. Sometime a piece comes down enough to justify it.

Sometimes a great deal on something I want pops up.

The higher priced stuff can sit there, it doesn't bother me at all.
