I can finally play guitar for like 10-15 min without my shoulder killing me or feeling it too much the next day (yay physio!) and I feel like I'll be much better in 6 months or a year. Since I can't play standing up anymore I'm 110% sure I will never be using whatever amp I buy to jam with a drummer or to play shows with. So it will strictly be used like a practice amp would.

Anyways, in the meantime I want to start looking into a small wattage practice amp. Ideally something I can 4 cable with my pod hd500?

I play death metal for the most part and my favourite tones are that of decapitated and psycroptic. I like that tight and punchy midrange without too much "grind".

I feel like a Rhodes would be perfect but it would be overkill for me unless he does a smaller version in the future.

I have no budget as my purchase won't be happening for like 4-5 months, so I have lots of time to save and plan accordingly.

Dude, 4cm with a POD snag a 6505+ with a 10 band in the loop. Sick and cheap.

Only at Rig-Talk could a 6505+ be suggested as a low-wattage practice amp.

Grab one of the small watt Randall RD's. Cheap enough to be disposable but damn good high gain tone at lower volumes. Direct out silent recording too.

end thread.......these would be perfect

Sweet, I was looking at those but I haven't heard much about them. What about the ENGL Ironball? Man there are so many cool small heads out there right now I just wanna buy them all.

Marshall JMP with cameron aldrich mod could give it best a really low levels :)

I still swear by the Peavey Bandit combo, best metal tones for a little practice amp and can be had for cheap.

Unsure but I do not think it is a tube amp, still sounds killer.

Engl E530 preamp.

Headphone outputs and can easily accommodate effects. Price wise it isnt all bad + it is an all tubed preamp.

Peavey Vypyr tube 60. I got mine used for $300.

USB, headphones, and a 6505+ power section.

Diezel model is particularly juicy and tight. :D

What's your budget? Maybe ridiculous, but for those really heavy tones, nothing I've played sounded better at low volumes than a '07+ Diezel VH4. Most tube amps hit hard with a boost pedal will also get really, really heavy sounding at low volumes. I have a Triple Recto now that when hit with a Maxon sounds absolutely evil at quiet TV volumes.

I haven't been a huge fan of the little high gain amps that I've heard and tried, but they'll get the job done for WAY less than a VH4, that's for sure.

I don't know how it would work with the POD, but how about a Mesa Mini-Rectifier or Mini-Recto-Verb, everything I've heard sounds awesome.

This is Rig-Talk....we don't do small shit. :D

Laney Ironheart studio. I use mine all the time. It has a responsive EQ, 3 channels, 15 & 1 watt inputs and has a headphone out. Its also an all tube unit that's rackmountable.

+1 on the Blackstar HT-5. IMO, the best sounding micro-amp for high gain sounds, and it's cheap.
