High end, heavy picks users?

Just want to see if you guys here are using what some called boutique picks, like Red Bear, V-Picks, Picks & Stones, Blue Chip, Wegen etc..
I'm constantly working on different picks in the quest of refining my picking technique. i have most of the above mentioned. Currently, I'm using V-Picks Dimension 4.75mm. also been testing out a Pick & Stones agate pick 3mm, these are expensice at $30 each. I do prefer very thick gauge.
Anyone use Wegen? i have a couple and they're great, but it seems impossible to get them right now.
BTW I have a ton of picks, from many companies, brand new. If anyone is interested, I'll sell or trade for a great deal, just PM me.

I tried several v picks, none of the really expensive ones though. They had a selection of picks that were similar to jazz III's on their website a few months ago. While I like the picks, I ended up prefering Dava.

I like to use V Picks. I got the assortment bag and really, any of them work fine for me. Occasionally I'll use a toonie coin as well. Maybe I just like really firm picks....

yes, it may sound like a lot of $, but i think it's worth it if it's a great pick. Picks are such an essential part of your sound, so if it's worth it I don't mind spending the $. i actually about 5 Pick & Stones, at $30 a piece
There are more expensive picks on the market, believe it or not. The Blue Chip supposedly cost around $80-90. That's why i don't have one.

I recently started using both Gravity and V-Picks in 1.5mm. I like the larger triangle shapes. I'm still getting used to the feel; however, it is amazing how much better they make everything sound. No snake oil and well worth the money to me.

Love the big acrylics for metal and heavy rhythms. Been using a Gravity Punch for a while, and a custom that Chris made for me, both 6mm thick. For leads and rock though, the click or chirp annoys me. It's very obvious under lower gain. Went to Cactus and Graphtech picks for that. I switch off, but I'm off the expensive pick kick; my wife pointed out that for what I spent on picks I could have bought a new guitar lol.

I've used Jim Dunlop for 30 years or more.., I went from a .60 to 1mm over those years. I like how they feel, that they last as long as I don't lose 'em, and that they are still 3 for a buck.

I recently switched from Red Bear lil jazzer to Dunlop Tortex Jazz III pitch black 1.14. I really dig the tone of tortex a lot...

I was using Wegen Dippers for years. Love them, but as you said too hard to get.

Another for Gravity picks. I use their razor 1.5mm which is close to the same shape as dunlop nylons. Lightweight, great sound, and i replace them annually and not weekly.

I did have to adjust my playing to limit or remove the chirp they had. At first i didnt like it and i do admit it is there. Nothing bad, just an FYI.

really ? High end pics ? I understand that different matterials give a different feel and even a different sound but I've just always just used fender mediums , tried dunlops but don't really like the feel . I can't imagine spending more than a quarter on a pick.

Yeah, I'm still trying to find guys with better tone than Hendrix, SRV, Clapton, Iommi, Yngwie, EVH...........etc and most of them used cheap Fenders.

Sorry, I'm not buying it, just like I'm not buying $500 20ft guitar cables or $1,000 crystal lattice tubes that were made in that mountain from Lord of The Rings.

If you are already comfortable with the idea of spending a decent amount of money on a pick that will last you forever... definitely check out Patrick Hufschmid's picks... they are all 100% handmade from materials that I can't even pronounce... I've been using one of his "drop" style picks for forever... and I swear it hasn't worn down at ALL... really impressive stuff... you'll thank me later if you are into the thicker pick styles...

Been using Vpicks for a few years now as well as dunlop steel picks. something about a pick that doesn't bend works for my right hand especially during alt picking/sweeping etc. Its just feels like a more accurate tool. before that in the 80's I used the Purple Tortex and though they where the bomb..

Ive been thru them all... red bear for months, vpicks for days.. was using jazz III XL's the last couple years but always found they got 'static' and caught up when playing fast runs, ie: alternate/economy picking etc.. just didn't feel right to me even tho they are great picks and players FAR better than myself swear by them. I recently just changed to Ultex sharp .73's and planet waves satriani mediums.. I am reinspired and find alot more snap thru the string for me. Also sounds so nice when chording or arpeggiating.. Im heavy handed and find that the medium (.70-.90) gauge picks really work way better for me. Very glad and excited that I made the switch

Stainless Steel . Bought a BUNCH of 'em a long time ago...still using the same ones. Incredibly stiff, but a bit bright and a little slippery when sweaty. Also use purple and green Dunlops and Fender heavies/extra heavies. This is all for electric guitar. For acoustic its Fender lights only. Sound much better to me than heavies.

The most expensive picks I own and use are made out of cymbal brass and go for about $8 each.


I have no interest in trying every big dollar pick on the market, but the thing that surprises me about the situation is the amount of people belly-aching about a $20 pick when they own $60k worth of gear.
