I'm not sure if gain can be measured, but what is the highest gain amp? I don't care about the price, if it's tube or SS or what it sounds like. Just for the sake of curiosity, what amp has more gain than anything else?

From what I've played recently the Peavey jSX and 3120 had an unbelievable amount of gain. Even on the crunch channel the JSK was severe metal at 9/10 O'clock.

Original series Peavey 5150 is the "gainiest" sounding head that I have ever owned (and I've owned A LOT of high-gainers).

5150 I has to be #1. Soldano SLO maybe after that.

Egnater's EG5 module has a sick amount of gain, too.

Never thought I would read SLO in a most gain thread.....................

Tube amp JVM 410H

SS Line 6 Insane patch boosted.

when you guys say original 5150, are you referring to the one with the block-lettered EVH initials or script (or are they essentially the same)?

also, how would you compare the original to the 5150 II gain wise?

I don't know anything about the designs / gain stages but the most gainy sounding amp I've had / played was a Triple XXX.

Will have to be odd man out here and say no to the 5150.

Mak4 "Dorado" channel, hands down, the most gain - period.

Mo

Definitely not a SLO. This is sort of a difficult question to answer correctly, because perceived gain and actual gain stages are two very different things. It's probably a S.S. circuit or a modeler. (Line 6 Insane model possibly as said earlier)

The script and block are the exact same amp, as is the 6505.

Peavey XXX from my experience. Death metal gain at 9:00 on the crunch channel.

Runners up.......JVM and Engl Fireball.
