Hey Crew!

I need to reach out to you on this, http://www.musicworks.co.nz/guitar-head ... -amp-head/ whta do you guys know about this head? Seems that they are super rare. What would be a fair price to pay? I have an opportunity to get one and would like to know what you think. As always  on and I look forward to your answers.

Well unless they had one instock before you posted, there out of stock..

Well, it is not from them. I have a chance to pick one up mint on the used market. Just wondering what a good price is to pay.

That NZ price might be quite high, I just moved back from there... You might want to double check with a USA dealer to see what they sold for. Looks like a neat amp..

I have played the 7w, 20w studio, 50w custom, 50w Hi-Gain, and DG50 Hiwatt heads. I love Hiwatt amps for their tone and feel. They're very inspiring to play and feel alive in my hands. Currently, I have a Reeves Custom 12 which only costs around $950. I don't care for power-scaling so I have the regular model. It's absolutely fantastic and has ample headroom with humbuckers up until the volume is around 1:30-2:00. After that it distorts from power tube breakup, but doesn't get any louder so the headroom is quite fair.

The Reeves Custom 12 is basically a higher headroom model of the Reeves Custom 6 which is basically the Hiwatt Custom 7 I think. Neither the Custom 6 or Custom 7 not loud enough for a band but you might get away with one of those little 3-piece jazz gigs at a restaurant or something. The Reeves, in my opinion, is every bit as good and juicy as the Hiwatt stuff. One of the things about the Hiwatts that sounds great are the speakers which I think are called Fane or something. I use an Eminence Man'o'War and it works great with my Custom 12.

Anyway, back to the Custom 7... I played it before I ever came across the Reeves Custom 6. When I came across Reeves amps, I tried a Custom 18 and Custom 6. Playing the Custom 6 brought me back to to what I felt and heard with the Hiwatt, so I went away with the impression that they're the same circuit inside. I don't know that for a fact, but my point is that if you can't get a Custom 7 or want to get one for a much better price, then snag yourself a Reeves Custom 6. If anything, the Reeves might lean slightly more on the side of a plexi'ish sound, but I can't remember the Hiwatt fresh enough to say for sure. Whatever the case is, either amp is fantastic.

You would have better luck grabbing a Reeves... They are always popping up on The Gear Page.
