I`ve set up my guitars (learning by trying and failing), changed pickups and stuff for a while.
But I never polished the frets. I dunno why.. I guess time have been an issue?
Yesterday I sat down with some steel wool, an old clean sock, a box of metal polish and a plastic bag and some blue masking tape.
I took off the strings, taped down the wood between the frets, and gave them a good run-over with the steel wool. I then put some polish on the sock, and rubbed it real good
HOLY COW!!!!
I did it on a cheapie 7-string that played decent, had a low string height and generally was a nice player. After the treatment, it was BUTTER. I had no idea that a 30 minute job that included no tools could improve the playing so dramatically. This weekend, I`m going to give the others a whirl. I was sitting on the couch the rest of the evening, just noodling unplugged. I was sheer joy!
Just thought I`d share, in case there are others like me.
