This is going to be killer.

Drummer Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ADRENALINE MOB) has joined forces with guitarist/vocalist John Sykes (WHITESNAKE, BLUE MURDER, THIN LIZZY) and an as-yet-undisclosed bassist in a brand new power trio. The project is currently recording material at a Los Angeles studio, with Portnoy describing one song as "copping the [LED] ZEPPELIN/[BLACK] SABBATH vibe" and another as "[PINK] FLOYD meets [DEEP] PURPLE!!! Some serious old-school classic rock."

Portnoy and Sykes appeared earlier today (Monday, July 25) at a taping of season eight of VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show" (see photos below). The program's co-host Eddie Trunk tweeted about their new collaboration, "I heard demos. Sounds like killer BLUE MURDER meets '1987' WHITESNAKE. Amazing!" He also said that the new group will perform some BLUE MURDER material when it hits the road.
Sykes announced his departure from THIN LIZZY in July 2009, explaining that "I feel it's time to get back to playing my own music."

That is exactly what I was thinking, I am just happy JS is doing anything, seems like he disappeared after TL.

Great news! I would rather Portnoy do this then Adrenaline Mob. Huge Sykes fan and glad to see him writing new material. Maybe they could give Tony Franklin a call.

New Sykes!?!?! I cannot wait to hear this, because you know its gonna be outstanding. I agree that they should have Tony Franklin on this project, too. Never really had a problem with Carmine Appice, but Portnoy-Sykes-Franklin = early Blue Murder on steroids!

Sounds cool. I just hope they don't leave a vocal mic anywhere near Portnoy.

Agreed. With a singer like Sykes in the room, no one else should get near a mic.

The 1st thought that came to me was Sheehan.

Holy Shit indeed!!!!! I'm so damn excited about this......could be truly incredible!

perhaps John Paul Jones might be available, with Grohl and company on the road this fall . . .

good combination.

I wish Sykes would come out to play more often.
