Hot Plate Attenuator When Biasing?

Quick question and maybe dumb. Can I plug in an amp head to only the hot plate while biasing? I assume just plugging into the hot plate is creating a load.

Or do you need to connect the hot plate to a cab to complete a load?

I think he is asking if he can just use the hot plate ‘on its own’ without a speaker cabinet…
Sounds like he doesn’t have a speaker cabinet to use as a load, I think he’s asking if the hotplate creates a load without plugging speakers to the speaker Jacks of the hot plate…

Correct. It would be nice to just take the hot plate on the bench with me vs lugging around a 2x12 or something.

Yes i do it all the time.
Set to "Load" and be sure to correctly match impedance.

Did you read his post bro?

That is a load. Cab/Loadbox/Attenuator. All of them are loads.

I referenced with a link.

Just to clarify, what you are saying here is it’s OK to play with my amplifier plugged into any attenuator without a speaker cabinet connected to attenuator.

Depends on the attenuator.
The question in this thread was about "biasing".

Yep, I hear ya bro?
I just don’t appreciate misinformation that might lead someone to blowing up their amp.
In my opinion, an attenuator is NOT a load, unless it’s got that ‘load’ option like the THD Hotplate, which most don’t have.

A load is a load whether its got a speaker or not.
The transformer does not care.

Since the OP said A) they don't have a speaker and B)Hot Plate, and given I replied: "use a load" with a reference to the dummy load in the article, I thought maybe they would have worked out that yeah, use the Hot Plate in Load mode. I didn't say attenuate for that reason. However, the HP is an attenuator which is why I included it in my list of things that are loads. Speakers/Loadbox/Attenuator. Not all attenuators are, but theirs happens to be. Anyway, if it wasn't clear, I am sure it is now.

I use my suhr reactive load when biasing... I guess as long as the hot plate has a load should be good.
