Talk about GAS yesterday I dreamn't that I owned an SLO, I woke up in a bad humor as I realized I don't LOL....

SharkDiver, where are you?

The Surf Box is history (sold it). I might have to update this pic next week.
I purchased the SLO-r in 1990 and ever since then.....

what's the space box Jim? You have an extra 100r you wanna sell me? : ).

It took me forever to find that SM100r. And I paid crazy money for it. No way!

The Space Box is a reverb unit with dwell, tone, and mix controls. It's not as lush as the Surf Box but it sounds very nice and has wicked graphic.

Oh man, wish I knew you were selling that space box. Lol.

How's your slo set up now.

I sold the Surf Box; I still have the Space Box.

I've been using the SLO for rehearsal and live.

Next two shows I'm using the X88r-VHT2150.

I'd love to use the X99 but it's super rare and they don't make the motorized parts for it anymore so I'm a bit hesitant to take it to/from practice and gigs.

I have a space box I might let go...

Fuzzy are you going to the LA Amp show? Jim says he is flying out. Mike is suppose to be there. A soldano love in?

wow

mike is actually gonna go?!

is he gonna be pimping soldano or Jet City?

Jim said Jet City. Not sure if he's just stopping by or hanging out.

I love my Space Box.
Sharkdiver, please PM your offers; public offerings make me squirm with GAS.

Loni Specter (sp?) emailed me that Mike is to upposedly going to be at the Jet City room at the LA Amp show. I emailed Mike but did not get a reply. I won't bother him with a phone call.

hey do you guys know of anyone who's gotten any heavy modding done on a slo?

Like what? Besides factory scoop, depth and fx loop in/out?

SCOOP: great on clean and OK on crunch; Mike and Bill discourage it on the lead
DEPTH: depends on your tastes, I rarely use mine
FX LOOP BYPASS: I supposed it makes the amp punchier but Bill says > 90% of the amps have the loop; only a handful have been built with out it.
HALF POWER: Not needed in my opinion.

Heavily modding an already heavily modded amp --consider the Soldano is a hotrod right of out of the box-- doesn't make sense to me. I'd just figure out what you don't like about the SLO and find a different amp.

no I love my slo. I was just wondering if anybody had ever gotten something like that done by anyone, like if Fortin, Friedman and the like had ever done anything with one.

I have spoken to Dave Friedman about modding one of my SLOs to an EL34, and a little preamp tweaking. I have also spoken with him about modding one of my X99s. It is more to have a different slant on these than trying to "improve" anything. Since I have more than one, why not? It is not that anything needs to be done to the Soldanos, it's more that having a different slant on something I already love gives me more tonal options. Just like changing tubes. :)

I kinda want kt88s :(. maybe a few value swaps for a different channel 1 voicing.
actually i just want the first channel to be a fuchs ods. is that too much to ask.

6L6, 5881, or KT 66's ?.

NO EL 34's, KT 77's, KT 88's, or 6550's etc but they did make an EL34 Avenger.
Also, maybe an old X88r preamp with a KT88 loaded power amp or VHT2150?

This is why Soldano's are actually great for stoner rock. I mean, it works for High on Fire (and it works for me), so why shouldn't it work for anyone else?

I think the loop is problematic at practise volumes because it boosts the signal so much. I know it does on my Avenger. At gigging volumes I can't imagine it being noticeable.

I modded an SLO to EL34's about 7 years ago. Lasted all of 2 days. I didn't like it at all.

Rearranged my home rehearsal room. Here's one end of it.
My camera is crapping out on me but....

Are the cabs Scumbacks or some Soldano speakers mixed in there?
