How good is the Ax8?

Ok folks, for a long time I've been a single pedal guy, this has culminated in my current setup up which is as follows:

Front of amp

Xotic SP compressor
Wampler Dual Fusion
Xotic EP
Strymon Mobius
Tc Electronic Sentry

In the loop

Strymon Timeline
Strymon Blue Sky

All into a Hughes and Kettner Duotone, controlled by a Diezel Columbus switcher via a mini amp gizmo.

Now I love this setup, the amp screams and the dual fusion is a lovely pedal. The strymons are inspiring and have great depth to their sound. But... It's a lot to carry round, the pedal board is quite big and the strymons live in a flight case on top of the amp.

So, the AX8? I could sell all the strymons and get every sound under the sun from the ax8 with the added bonus that I save space and if I blow a fuse/tube in the amp I could always go front of house, but would I miss the quality of the strymons.

I guess it comes down to the old single pedals vs multi pedals argument or should I just be happy with what I've got?

That doesnt look like enough pedals to make a BIG board. I would keep the pedals and buy the AX8 as well.
Not a lot of pedals in number but the Strymon's cover a lot of ground and could fund a good portion of the AX8 purchase (if that is a concern for the OP).

I think the AX8 sounds awesome in most of the clips I have heard. That Ozzy tribute guy gets amazing sounds out of his.

Haha you're probably right but the Columbus takes up a lot of space considering it's simply a midi switcher, it's also a bugger to power.

I figure the ax8 will give me any effect I need, give me a tone of of effects and control the Duotone but can it really outdo the dual fusion and strymons?

I just can't see how an AX8 would limit many people in terms of what it offers. It makes me wonder how all of our guitar heroes were able to "just get by", when you have hundreds of rigs, effects, cabs, etc.

It's all too much for me. And I'm perfectly happy with my AX8.

Love the AX8. I'm more amazed by the tones each time I use it. If you would've told me a year ago I would no longer be using tube amps I would've said you were crazy. Amazing piece of gear.

I'm going to be getting one, ready for my bi-annual gear purge/downsize.

WHat if you were to bring your AX8 to a band practice and the other guitar player plus straight into a 4x12 and you were to use the AX8 into the PA. Does it all sound weird that?
