How Larry DiMarzio’s pickup revolution defined the sound of 1970s guitar rock

Oh snap, another DiMarzio fanboi. Though this guy might actually get PAID to talk about DiMarzios instead of having to buy them first and then talk about them lol

My theory and could be totally false
Is the Dimarzio “Air” came from that study of the broken JB and Ed
Basically the “air “ gave the A5 less string pull and is underpowered
Jim DeCola at peavey had to get that same tone but the problem is Air was actually a physical bar under the magnet to weaken and Dimarzio had a patent that they could easily prove , So DeCola had to get that same tone and underpowered A5 without using the patented AIR tech
To this day I suspect the MM bridge
Is closest to AirZone or Airnorton
Or another air variant that EBMM had rights too
Air tech utilizes spacers between the magnet and the pole pieces, not a bar under the magnet. The "Air" design pre-dates working with Ed, it just happened to be fitting for the neck pickup design. Check out our Van Halen article, page 25: https://www.dimarzio.com/story/remembering-edward-van-halen - The technology existed before the Van Halen guitar.

Nothing, I'm probably the biggest DiMarzio fan boi on here lol
DiMarzio has been really good to me over the years.
I blame both of you for turning me onto them and making the leap with a purple and gold super distortion. It's really interesting how it works. It's deceptive at first but does cool stuff when you actually crank to gig volumes. Def more purple and gold dimarzios in my future!!!

DiMarzios are what I need to get that certain 'Vai' sound 100%.
I have a DiMarzio Evolution Bridge in one of my guitars (one of his pickups) and it's very very hot and will definitely let you know if you flub a note. I also bought another guitar that had another Evolution Bridge but in the neck, so after replacing it with a PAF Pro, I basically have another free Evolution Bridge pickup I can install in the bridge of something

Hey man, just doing my job to spread the good word of the dubbel kreem revolution.

How cool is this? We got dimarzio here giving us a history lesson on subjects that we love. I have to admit- I have two sets of dimarzio schb’s in two different guitars and they are some of the best pickups I have ever used. Clear, articulate, great definition, glassy sounding without gain and great with gain. They should make these regular production items….
