I got my guitar in 2014 and i still know the same. Chords lol

32 years, off and on, but I really don't feel that old...at least most days...;)

Just turned 50 and I've been playing since 1982. Logged most of my hours between 1983 and 1995. There was a six year stretch where I sold all my gear and just didn't play again until 2001. Since then it's been pretty regular, a couple of hours a day almost every day. When I first started it was three hours a day by myself with a metronome going over scales and arpeggios and picking apart songs I liked and band practice three times a week two or three hours a pop, then shows whenever possible. I "sang" lead vocals and played guitar so instead of spending my time writing riffs and arranging, I drilled playing/singing synchronization. It's only been in the last ten years that I've worked on any kind of song writing.

Oblivion DC, you sound like a stand up guy.

Here's where I learned and came from - building and learning guitar.

Compare: My dad got $10K from Fred's rights to Gallows Pole (in 1968) for Led Zeppelin (joke).

It doesn't really matter, does it? The number of years or hours a person has played is mostly irrelevant. When someone asks that question, what they usually want to know is if you are any good. Some people have natural talent and can be great players in a short period of time. Others can work hard for years and never get to that level.

33 years. I couldn't calculate that in hours. I have played about 1200 gigs in the last 20 years with the same band. That may
be a monumental achievement in of itself if you've ever experienced band politics.

about 15 years with a few breaks in between, started with the wrong genre though, so definitely playing catch up now.

Also, this thread is quite annoying to browse on a smart phone due to the douchey massive picture signature higher up...

35 years of playing & glossing over the important parts. The last 5 years have been actual study and application so...barely past beginner.

I played with my last long-term band for fourteen years and hundreds of shows. That dead horse had been beaten so bad. I tried to get out multiple times before I finally made a clean break. I always said that being in a band was like a marriage between 4 or 5 people. Cripes... it's a wonder bands don't kill each other! We had a few shows where the drummer and bass player had their "dukes" up and were ready to come to blows even before the show started (one is an alcoholic, the other a control freak). I can tell you that nothing takes the wind out of your sails to care about playing a kick-ass show, then someone in the band almost got their ass-kicked BEFORE the show starts.

I'm not just "someone". "I'm special" like "Al" Franken". :)

I am 54 and played on and off for the last 39 years. I still amuse my self and only play for the joy of it. I consider myself a hack but thats ok. What other activity can you enjoy for your lifetime?

40 years. bought my first guitar with with xmas money at 10yrs old.

I've been playing since I was 5 or 6 yrs old. I'm now 48. I try to play at least an hour a night. I gig usually once per week or once every 2 weeks or longer depending on the month with a couple of regular paid gigs. I do a couple of fun outdoor shows every year as well.

I really like just playing quietly through the headphones at night and just click record on the DAW and see what comes out. Sometimes it is fantastic...other times, I just hang the guitar up and enjoy the other fine things that being happily married and having 2 small children brings to my life. No complaints, no regrets! I try to enjoy it all every minute I can because all too often we take many things for granted. I'm so thankful for all of it.

Since 1988, obsessed with it since day one! First guitar was actually an electric....a Kramer Voyager(The super pointy one:)

Since 1983... I used to be way better during my hair band days. Nowadays, I just tinker more than anything and am way out of practice. Guitars are my hobby.

Since 1987 and there is rarely a day that goes by that I don't play. Which basically translates to the fact that I should be much better than I am. Lol.

been playing for 40 some odd years...
god only knows how many hours spent, enough to drive a couple women away...lol

I can finally play a barre chord!

wait is that a 7th?
major?
minor?

....................lol
