How similar/different is the JTM45 compared to the 50 watt Super Lead?

Wanting to build another amp.
Already have built the JTM45 and an 18watt TMB.

How different is the JTM45 from the 50 watt Super lead?
Is it worth building/owning both?

I am also interested in building a dual EL34 Trainwreck circuit.
Maybe different enough?

Dave Friedman always tends to tell players on Tone Talk that a blackface is always good to have in the arsenal (?).
Could go that route...

Griff, I was looking at the Ceriatone Express model.
Figured I already had EL84's covered with my 18watt...

Is this a Ceriatone creation? I only ask because of your response.

I was asking what that was .... I'm interested in building something out of the Marshall vein ... I've heard of Trainwreck before ... but don't know crap about them .

Ken Fisher built them.
I dont know all the history, but I dig the tones.

Was Fisher the one who stated that different colored wire actually sounded different?

Trey Anastasio is using A Trainwreck these days.
Plus, following lespaulforum on Instagram, players (players I enjoy) stop there it seems and play different old/vintage guitars and once in a while they plug into a TW. Pretty sure he is Bonomassa's partner?

Ceriatone has four models they clone. I think that would be the way to put it?
Anyways, the Express model is the only one with EL34's.
All the others are EL84 based.

hmmmm I'll have to check out the build docs on that one .... I'd like to see the schematic

Didn’t find a schematic on the site but they have this layout…

looks " Fenderish " no ?? I've considered a few different Fender builds .... but I don't know or have any experience with them other than an early 70's Twin I had back in the late 80's
Is Trainwreck considered " Dumble-ish " ??

The JMP50 has less sag, tighter (no tube rectifier, higher filtering), less bassy, and has more distortion. It’s not only the different output tubes. I think they differ quite a bit.

Appreciate the reply @valve it's just what I was looking for.
I'd like to stick with the Marshall platform, no need to broaden these horizons...

You‘re welcome.
I would even say the JMP50 is a rock amp, where the JTM45 is more blues and softer stuff. It‘s not really agressive and tight for distorted Rhythmen tones, at least for my licking. But you could mod it easily in the JMP50 direction (adjust high pass, mixing resistors, bright caps, diode rectifier, bigger Filtecaps and further decoupling of the first gain stages)

I love my JTM45, but everything you've said describing it is spot on.
So it's different pups and guitars for different tone.

JMP50 seems to be everything I am looking for, that's not my 45.

You could convert your JTM45 into a Dirty Shirly, and get to rocking.

I’ve built a Trainwreck Express and Rocket. I still have and love the Rocket. The Express is a picky amp. Everything has to be just right and even then it’s for players that work their volume a lot and it has a sound. Listen to clips, it’s not an amp for everyone.

If I were going to build a Trainwreck for distorted tones it would be a Liverpool no question. If you want a distorted Trainwreck tone that’s the one imo. Rockets are amazing but they’re best for jangly Vox tones and it’s edge of breakup with a Tele is a religious experience.

But even a Liverpool is still not a tight chuggy/riffy type of tone. And you said you’d like to stick Marshall and you seem to want EL34s. So a 50W Marshall build that is geared for gain (since your JTM45 covers everything up to edge of breakup) sounds like a good choice. A 50W Ed-spec smallbox would be killer.

I like your opinion.

Not to derail, but noob question...

If I build the 50 watt, would my Power Station 2 be inadequate?
Would I need to purchase the 100 watt PS?

My PS may be my most important piece of gear...
I try to do everything with guitar and amp drive wise, I do like a little pedal delay.

The load part of the Powerstation doesn’t change, only the reamp power section changes between the PS and PS100.

Oh and btw I have a perfect, unused Heyboer 50w Marshall PT from amppartsdirect.com if interested. I bought for a project and never used. Pretty new.
