How to rewire a 4X12?

It's a laney 4X12 with v30's with a 16 ohm mono input. any way to rewire it to 8ohms mono and 4ohms stereo? I assume the v30's are all 16ohm speakers. I'm a noob at dealing with speaker loads. As always-any help is appreciated.

That is not possible with four 16 ohm speakers. You can do 16ohm, 4 ohm and 8 ohm stereo.

Yeah 2 pairs in series and those two pairs terminated to the jack in parrallel = 16 ohms, no other way to do it unless you go mono / stereo.

my rec has an 8ohm tap and 2 4ohm taps. i'm running it out of my 8ohm tap but it's just not optimal doing it like that. was wondering if there was a simple fix for it, y'know?

What is "rec" ? ..... amp ?.... cab ?

If you have a 4x12 with 16 ohm speakers it can be wired to 4 ohms. The diagram is on the sound city link .... 4x12 Parallel Wiring (Diagram).

WARNING Write down a full diagram of how it is before you change anything. There is a good chance you well like it better the way it is. Myself I would not bother with rewiring the cab and just use the 8 ohm tap on the amp into the 16 ohm cab. But you may want to try it.

Once you wire it check the phase with the 9 volt battery method ....

Plug a speaker chord into the cab. Take a 9 volt battery at the other end with the positive and negative of the battery and speaker chord. You well hear a "pop". It does not matter if is positive or negative. What does matter is all the speaker are moving out or in. When they are all going the same direction the cab is in phase with it's self.

You may need to reverse the phase of one cab if you use more than one cab. .... or change the positive and negative at the output jack of one cab.
