They nailed the right purple. That sold me.
( I won't tell anyone :D)
They nailed the circuit as well.

The shelving usually is set at a particular frequency, and you tell it how much to roll off.

A typical HP or LP will let you select the frequency where the roll off starts, but tend to offer more limited control over how steep the roll off is.

My understanding is the HP and LP work like an audio crossover. The roll-off is chosen
in dB per octave increments at a high or low limit (-6, -12, -18, etc)

Then with Q you're choosing the width (bell) of the cut or boost at a set or chosen F.

Understanding that, I'm not getting how shelving is very different.
I'm asking cause the para's in the Quad come with a shelf option along with
the standard bandpass and peak.

The VFE pedals are interesting. I agree they can sound clinical... I owned 4 Standouts and the first one I got is the only one I have left. It just had a little more magic and to me didn’t sound clinical. The two Dragons sounded great, but both sounded too clinical for me...they just were missing a little character. Kind of like the difference between the JRC4550 and TL072 op amps. Like you said, the Merman never had that clinical sound...but it’s a Klon clone so the design is quite different.

I love my TC1140 PEQ, but it’s not always easy to swap out for different sounds... pedals make doing that super easy. ?
I had 2 standouts (early versions). I think I did prefer the earlier one of the 2 I had by just a tiny little bit, but not by much. I actually thought many of the Klon clones I’ve tried did sound sterile or clinical and was kinda expecting the merman to be just another one of those, but surprisingly not and has been a keeper still

Yeah those rack unit are definitely a lot more cumbersome. For tightness and attack (what I mostly used the standout for) my favorite rack pq has been my Audioarts 4100 and I got it for less than half the price of what I sold both my Furman PQ-3 and TC 1140 for recently. They’re underrated, but maybe these days would sell for more than what I paid, who knows. The 1140 and Furman are great too

Seen a million PCB assemblies through the years.
This is about as clean and neat as you're going to get from mass production.
Really, really impressive! (damn Chinese)

I didn’t search out this pedal either. I had a friend tell me about it and it’s so good I had to jump on it before he sold out. ? It sounds awesome with my JMP. I feel a little bad not owning an original, but the wait was just too long. ?

I was going to ask how well that pedal does with your Marshalls. How does it compare to the standout or say the Cusack screamer that you have used before?
The pedal is really impressive. Lots of versatility with both sides. I like using both sides with the JMP... yes, I can crank up just one side to push the amp, but using both sides set lower really does the trick. I like that the sound is compressed enough to feel good, but not squashed to make it sound generic.

Nice, the price is great but so is the fact that you have two sides that can be stacked. Sounds like you can dial in a good heavy tone and then have the other side to lead boost it which appeals to me. I think i will check one out.

You have any experience with the other 2 models in the line? The tilt EQ looks very cool too.

I have all three. Just got the Pinball. WHY this pedal wasn't HUGELY popular is beyond me. Outstanding pedal with a strat, directly into the front end of an amp or preamp. I was using it to remove the icepick from the bridge pickup and to fatten it up. Worked fantastically. Then I decided to try it POST preamp! Mother of Jesus, it's even more incredible! You can use it to dial in mid to higher gain tones! Post preamp, it really shines. You can really sculpt your tone. You can cut the obnoxious, fizzy tones, tighten up flub, thicken the tone of treble strings. The strat lead tone I've been chasing for years in my head is now in my rig. Think Eric Johnson with a little early VH 1 thrown in. A strat that has almost a P-90 thickness to it, with the power of a humbucker. I would highly recommend one for dialing in your tone. BTW it's also pretty incredible in front of an amp as well, It allowed me to dial in beautiful low gain and clean tones. Lastly, when using post-pre-amp for recording, you can treat it like the ultimate analog speaker simulator and dial in virtually any type of speaker. I'm grabbing another as soon as I can...
