Got a great deal on a new one - $934. Can't wait to see it Friday!

Couldn't help it. I know the brootz are there, and believe I can coax mid-gain tones too. Clean channel? Fuck cleans.. But, I think I can coax them, atleast "do-able".

One thing's for sure - the brootz WILL be there!! Especially with my Sonic Stomp in the loop, & TS9 in front!!!

great amp, i had a bunch of them and they never let me down.

6 years owning a 5150 II, 8 years owning 5150's in general, 12 years playing them. they can literally do it all, and i dont have any gas to replace one, only add to my collection. definately a weapon in my arsenal that will not leave

Congrats! Loved mine, especially the crunch channel with a bad monkey boosting it, really thick. Enjoy.

Ive a + & it does mid-gain crunch VERY good.

Im sure youll figure it out no prob but heres how I do it...
Crunch ch:
bright engaged,
res-10,
pres- around 5 but never over 7..
Gain around half &
Eq to taste... ;)

I think my '67 RI Gibson V is going to SCREAM through this puppy. Tried a 6505+ at GC through matching cab, and I was in HEAVEN! The guitar wasn't even my Gibby - it was an EPI cheapie....

Never owned a +, but did own the 5150. I thought the 6505+ was more alive, and clearer. Almost more "Marshall" than the 5150, but tons more balls. BRUTAL, indeed.

Just be sure you do the Bias mod.. I did that to mine and the distortion just got way less fizzy after I re-biased it and got it out of crossover distortion.. It helped the clean channel a bunch too!!!

You using stock speakers?

Great choice. I love my 5152. It through my Fatbottom cab :rawk:

after going through a boatload of amps, the 5150 has finally cured my amp GAS
it's my #1

Amps owned/currently own
TSL-100
Ubershcall
Engl Blackmore
Triple Recto
Axe-fx

I have been playing my 6505+ alot lately. I actually prefer it to my FJA 5150, and I did not think that was possible. You can get great mid gain tones out of it.

what's your FJA had done to it??

You know, I've always had a preference towards the 5150 versus the 5150 II. Sometimes I contemplate getting another one. I had a normal 5150 for years and it made me a very very happy camper.

I am currently using a Peavey Triple x cab with triple x speakers and also an old trace elliot 4x12 with vintage 30's.. The difference in tone between the 2 cabs is very minor.. since the bias mod the high end on the amp is way less harsh and the clean channel does not seem to have the same mid range harshness that it did before sounding.. I plan on doing a choke next..

Bias and clarity mod, choke and Ot mod. I always prefered it over every amp until I got the 6505+. I am going to have the 6505+ bias modded and just leave it at that b/c I love it as it is. Possibly a choke also.

HNAD man. I've got a 5150 II and I'll tell you this.

The crunch channel is fantastic, for mid gain it kicks ass as well, actually sounds really decent for blues. It's got a ton of mids and not as much bass as you'd espect, and can get fizzy with high presence, so keep these things in mind when EQing.

These amps like EMGS, JJ valves (It's quite a bright amp, JJs are darker in tonality) These Peaveys from what I've heard and what amps I've seen at gigs/played, 5150/6505 does balls out br00tz riffage the BEST.

NO amp likes EMG's!! :gethim:

At least not when my ears are listening, Im an EMG hater.. ;)

It flat out depends on what you like. Im using a 59' in one guitar & a Breed in another, & theyre 2 different flavors that come thru this amp very nice IMO.

Congrats!
I'm on my third one, that's exactly what I think of it like a more "marshall" version of the original.
to the OP you won't need the BBE in the loop of the + , to me those sound better with the original 5150's.
I actually run an MXR 10 band EQ in the loop of mine and it gets real "Marshally" sounding if I want.
Really smooths out the lead channel too (if you want that) which I do. :)
I'm holding on to the one I currently have.
