this popped up on the Facebook market place last week and I grabbed it. I have a love/hate thing with 7 strings ,I love to play them but
I hate having them sit around unused (since 2008 I've gone through about 14 of them :) )
My band will probably never entertain playing anything where I could use this but I grabbed it anyway. It's actually royal blue but it looks black in this picture.
I find that I approach playing differently when I play a 7. Between 2008-2015 I didn't play anything but 7's even though I was still playing lots of 6 string stuff, I just played it on a 7.
1998 RG7620, it's got a duncan Distortion in the bridge which surprisingly sounds pretty good, and the stock neck pickup. I had a Liquifire 7 neck pickup in a drawer so that will go in and a floyd trem arm assembly is incoming as well, as I don't like the angle of Ibanez trem arms and have always changed them out. This one is in pretty good shape , I'll have my tech do a once over on it and make sure the frets are level and the neck is correct etc.
I've had several 7620's a Custom order BRJ7 (that I wish I held on to), a few different Schecters, several J custom 7's and a Jackson Slat3-7. the 7620's when properly set up with good pickups can hang with just about any 7 out there.
For anyone out there tinkering with the idea of trying a 7 the 7620 is what I would strongly recommend. they have comfy necks and you can always find one at a good price used.
Time to Jam out to some Petrucci "Jaws of Life" and some Nevermore :)

I am so jealous, I sent you a PM

I have a 7629 also. You’re right, they play and sound great. I have solid mounted Miracle Man’s in mine. The neck is a great shape and I think the bigger headstock helps the tone.

Q: what is that pedalboard? Is there some addition to accommodate the FX8?

I used to have a 7620 with a miracleman in the bridge but at the time I had a recto. It completely nailed the Nevermore tone but I had a Recto back then I don't know how it would sound through the Splawn..
The pedalboard is the FX8MkII the splawn foot switch a tuner and an expression pedal on a pedaltrain . I find the tuner in the FX-8 "floats" too much and I get a more accurate tune with the external tuner

Don’t want to derail your new guitar thread but yeah - I run an outboard tuner with my FX8 too. But what is that pedalboard? Is there an extra section made special for the FX8? Is it an add on to some other board or that board comes that way or? And I need some of those big buttons too! Lol!

Don’t buy a guitar thinking your gonna gig with it etc. Buy it CAUSE YOU LIKE IT!! I got several guitars laying around I haven’t played in years. Bought em cause I like em. Still do. Haha ?

it's just the wide PedalTrain board (I forgot the model name) and the buttons I got here on amazon

this one I am probably going to hang to even if I can't gig with it , I've a 7 string revolving door going on for years. I most recently had a 752AHM that was one of the best playing 7's I ever had but no matter what pickups I put in it it sounded like crap so I moved it, this one already sounds good so that's one issue out of the way. :)

Thru the years probably owned close to 400 electrics. (Not the same time of course!). Was a big collector in the 90s. I buy em. Enjoy em. Moved em. Had lot rare ones I regret selling. Down to about 6 these days. Happier than ever. It’s a FUN OBSESSION Hobby!!

I was a bit of a collector myself back about 15 years ago , now I'm down to 8, might move one or 2 of them but the rest are keepers. I may look for another band to join where I can use a 7, I've got more than enough free time to do so, might as well :)

and yet another 7 has made it's way to my house
JB/59 in there now , this one has medium jumbo frets which are a departure for me, I like 6100 fret wire , but the neck on this one just kills and I love the look of it.
mahogany wings under the quilted maple top with an oiled maple neck through. the Upper fret access on these is ridiculous

my Ibanez is with my tech , a couple of frets had lifted and he's reseating them and putting in new pickups for me (Pegasus/liquifire)
when that on comes back I will choose between these 2 and just keep one as I have no need for 2 7's (actually don't even need one but I like em)
but I'm kind of leaning towards the carvin right now.
