:salute: What a fucking talent.. I'm just now hip to his contribution to Rock.

The dude wrote ALL the songs, and sang his ass off. Great lyrics too.. I must have been stoned and listening to Metallica to notice back in the day..

Well, It's good you were listening to Metallica instead of Jesus Jones or some shit. Jani was talented. I like their debut(Big Talk was my fav song), but they stepped it up production wise on Cherry Pie. I feel kinda bad when i saw an interview of him saying the album was done, it was called Uncle Tom's Cabin, and the Colombia came to them and said we need a hit, and he wrote Cherry Pie in like one night. He said something like "i'm doing cherry pie contests, seeing cherry pies in my dreams, hate that song." haha It was funny how he put it.

But with exception to "I Saw Red," seems like he was trying to be a little heavier.

As a side note, Robert Mason in Warrant is no joke. The guy is fuckin awesome, and they are kinda lucky they have him.

Was an incredible songwriter ,take away all the hairspray and commercial crap

listen to songs like April 2031 , Bitter Pill ,Burning Bridges ,Family Picinic , and off course Uncle Tom Cabin amazing writer

Talented dude, no doubt!

Funny - my band shared some stages with Warrant when Adam Shore was singing for them before Jani replaced him. Totally different band then... When I got to hear then with mani it was like night and day...

Steve

Always liked Warrant. The first album got me laid alot. lol

Uncle Tom's Cabin... good stuff. From the moment that "Cherry Pie" debuted I knew that it was some record company exec's BS wet dream and nothing more. It was clear that the same talent who wrote UTC, "Warhol Was Right" and "All My Bridges are Burning" wasn't the same one (at least in spirit) who dumped-out the turd that was Cherry Pie.

Yes Warhol was right was amazing too

Unfortunately grunge had hit and I think
Cherry pie had done its damage

Dog eat dog was actually my fav

The only redeeming factor on the 1st Warrant Cd was Mike Slamer who was from the bands City Boy and Streets.

They brought him in secretly to ghost play all the guitars to give the album a Hi Tech guitar sound, since the 2 original guitar players were mediocre to poor players at best.

There is some really great playing on the album.

One of my all time fave singers and songwriters. And a helluva nice guy too. Really sucks that he couldn't beat his demons. Dog Eat Dog is his masterpiece.

This might be old news for everybody as well, but I found this great interview with Bobbie Brown that was really insightful about how things were in the late 80's and how his death went down. I'd be interested to hear what the detectives found out about his death in the hotel.

Dog eat dog is one of my favorite cd's of all time. Whenever I play Bitter Pill for anyone they are blown away by the writing and production.

Great band

Great song writer, great voice (when he still had it) , great tone too! Bummer he couldn't climb out of the hole and stay out but I never really thought much of bobby.. like most of those 80's starlets, yeah they were cheated on but most of them are far from saintly.

Yes. Warrant was foreplay in the day....

I try to match Jani tone and pitch sometime, just scatting along when on xm...holy shit the dude had some pipes.

Warrant was one of my faves back in the day. I Saw Red....man that song had me.
I Bought a guitar from Erik Turner. BC Rich Custom shop neck thru. It was the Body Glove guitar.
Kept in contact with him for a while. Cool guy. Sent me a bunch of swag. Still got some picks and stuff around here from that.
But yeah Dirty rotten filthy stinking rich.....good stuff.
RIP Jani.
