This might be old news for everybody as well, but I found this great interview with Bobbie Brown that was really insightful about how things were in the late 80's and how his death went down. I'd be interested to hear what the detectives found out about his death in the hotel.

There's a lengthy description in her autobiography - really interesting read

The only redeeming factor on the 1st Warrant Cd was Mike Slamer who was from the bands City Boy and Streets.

They brought him in secretly to ghost play all the guitars to give the album a Hi Tech guitar sound, since the 2 original guitar players were mediocre to poor players at best.

There is some really great playing on the album.

Sorry for being off topic, if you like Mike Slamer, check out Steelhouse lane. They put out 2 real good albums in the late 90's.

I remember seeing a young Warrant in December 89 opening up for Crue on the Feelgood tour, great performance and Jani could certainly bring it. Cherry Pie wasn't out yet, though they debuted Uncle Tom's Cabin. First album was by far my favorite, straight up hard rock/good riffs, I'll have to check out more of Mike Slamer, really liked the playing on that album.

:salute: What a fucking talent.. I'm just now hip to his contribution to Rock.

The dude wrote ALL the songs, and sang his ass off. Great lyrics too.. I must have been stoned and listening to Metallica to notice back in the day..

Well, It's good you were listening to Metallica instead of Jesus Jones or some shit. Jani was talented. I like their debut(Big Talk was my fav song), but they stepped it up production wise on Cherry Pie. I feel kinda bad when i saw an interview of him saying the album was done, it was called Uncle Tom's Cabin, and the Colombia came to them and said we need a hit, and he wrote Cherry Pie in like one night. He said something like "i'm doing cherry pie contests, seeing cherry pies in my dreams, hate that song." haha It was funny how he put it.

But with exception to "I Saw Red," seems like he was trying to be a little heavier.

As a side note, Robert Mason in Warrant is no joke. The guy is fuckin awesome, and they are kinda lucky they have him.

I saw this interview too and had the same feelings. I think it was on "Behind The Music". Terribly sad, "suddenly I'm the Cherry Pie Guy". He was messed up, you could tell.

Whew. Hated that band.
Terrible turn of events for Jani though.
Too bad. :aww:

However, complaining incessantly because you had a hit song is lame.
Wish I could bitch about that!

Jani will always be known as the fucking Cherry Pie guy which I'm sure contributed to the demons eventually taking him but seriously the songwriting and singing chops on that guy was insane. I remember reading some quote where good art makes you feel something you've felt before but great art makes you feel something you've never felt before and there's really two things I can put as great by that categorization, one being the Beatles' "She's Leaving Home," I'm 21 and never had a kid so I don't know how it feels to have one run away on you but Lennon and McCartney sure made me feel like I had and the other is Warrant's "I Saw Red." Never walked in on my girl cheating but the power of Jani's voice and lyrics really made me feel like I had...

And that's quite the songwriting company to keep for something like that

Am I the only one who thinks the original post was completely insincere and the poster is having a good laugh at all the subsequent Jani love?

Yeah man.. I've had this song in my head for days now. When Jani comes in after the solo, he's singing his ass off. Great song and lyrics. Ooo it must be magic..

Imagine you wrote all the songs in this band, and you find yourself headlining an arena at like 25-26 years of age like he was in this concert. Now imagine singing Heaven standing in the middle of said arena.... Are you man enough?

Fast forward to 1:07 and put yourself in those shoes.. I was an idiot at 25, and he was on top of the world. That's a lot of pressure when Grunge comes in and kills your genre..
