Well this 2023 EVH Wolfgang Special Goldtop popped up on my local CL. The Double creme pickups, Ebony fretboard and the goldtop just spoke to me for some reason.:yes::LOL: Having owned and liking my 2001 EBMM Axis years ago I was always curious about the EVH wolfgang but never played one. I have only played a very early EVH striped series guitars I got on a trade and it was kind a meh at best. I was just curious about it so I went up to check it out to see if I even liked it. Surprisingly enough the basswood body was quite resonant and I really wasn't expecting that as my basswood experience in the past has not been that great. The guitar felt good played well, nice action, the ebony fretboard was nice and smooth/slick, the guitar has jumbo frets not the 6150's EBMM uses and it pretty much had no fretwear. The body had no dings on the body, it was mint. So I happily paid the guy $650.00 bones(No case) for it and went home with it as I brought a case with me. I think it will be a nice change up from my superstrats. I have to say the fit and finish on this EVH wolfgang seems to be better than my Charvel MIM Pro Mod I had a few years ago, even the 1000 Series EVH Floyd Rose feels a little better. Also the EVH Wolfgang pickups sound pretty damn good. The neck it a little thin for me but I do like the 12"-16" compound radius fretboard over my EBMM Axis 10" radius fretboard as well as the 6100 jumob frets. These used EVH wolfgangs seem like quite a bargain.......... :2thumbsup:

Nice score. There's a local guy here with a black one that was slightly tempting. I did play an old school Peavey model years ago, the kind with the birdseye af necks, and LOVED it.

Looks killer. Very cool that its got big frets too. That was one of the only problems I've had with the EVHs that I've played.

Congrats. You definitely picked a winner. Seems like the forum is arming up for an all out war in the neo-soul thread. @Fusionbear has dug deep into his collection of Suhrs. @Shreddy Mercury is shopping for the ultimate clean tone soldano. @NeubyWanKaneuby is plotting to bring the ten top fire. And now Hardriver turns up with this? SOMEBODY'S GONNA GET HURT!!!:yes::cheers::yes::LOL:

"Yes, an EVH guitar—particularly the Wolfgang series—is surprisingly good for neo-soul, offering exceptional versatility beyond metal. While known for high gain, its direct-mount humbuckers deliver articulate, clear tones, and the low-friction volume pot is ideal for smooth, soul-style volume swells."

EVH list these on the specials to be Jumbo frets. I just threw my digital calipers on one of my new Musikraft necks with 6100 Jumbo frets with no fretware between the 21st and 2nd and got these measurements....... 0.0600" tall x 0.109" wide.

Here's what I got on the EVH Wolfgang measurements between the 21st and 22nd frets......0.0590" tall x 0.1085" wide. So these are definitely Jumbo frets at least on this EVH Special but I imagine they would be similar to any that are listed as Jumbo frets.

Thanks Von!..........I'm relieved to know that this guitar is Neo-Soul compliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:p:yes::2thumbsup:

Happy NGD, brother!!!
Thank you Mr. Watson:rock:.........it literally snuck up on me on CL............I was all prepared to not like it at all and walk away but it really played so well and I like the ebony neck with the jumbo frets so I relented on the I don't need another guitar chant that I always say.................... What shocked me was how resonant the Basswood was acoustically unplugged, it actually reminded my of the alder bodied Charvel Pro mod that I had a few years back but the fit and finish is a tad bit better on this Wolfgang.

Lol. It's an awesome looking axe, love the gold+DuBBeL kReeMz and the ebony board. A craigslist score is always the most satisfying since there is no shipping wait, you can lay hands on it in person, and the price is better. The longest ride home tho! I guess I know what you'll be doing all weekend heh heh catch you in the neo-soul thread.
