Yes, this is very dangerous, prepare to be flamed territory, but I also really dig Enuff Z'Nuff. Yes, they are glammy beyond ridiculous, but the songwriting coolness contained in many of their songs goes way beyond your typical Poison, Faster Pussycat, Pretty Boy Floyd type glam bands. Way beyond. The singer and bassist are huge Beatles, John Lennon and Elvis Costello freaks and they have way better melodies, and harmonies than most other bands in that genre. But, yes.... if I listen to them with my eyes, they are way over the top and I can't take them seriously.
Plus....... I friggin' love Derek Frigo as a player. He was one of the very, very first Shrapnel guys as a teenager. before Yngwie, before Paul Gilbert. He was doing stuff on the early US Metal compilations as a 16 and 17 year old and then his band LeMans recorded one of the first Shrapnel band albums. On that he was teamed up with Josh Ramos who was another monster guitarist for that era who went on to play in the Storm and Hardline. They were both just ripping in a post Van Halen, pre Yngwie sort of way. They were really aggressive and were abusing the heck out of thei whammy bars. That first Le Mans album called "On The Streets" was a very large influence on me in 1983-1984. I still listen to it from time to time, and yeah, it's dated, but I still love both of those guys guitar playing on there. Frigo showed flashes of it in Enuff Z'Nuff, but never as over the top as he was in Le Mans at 17-19 years old. And to compare him to a guy like CC DeVille or the guys in Warrant or other really poppy rock bands is just silly. Frigo was at a whole different level. IMO of course.
