The old power tubes got so hot the glass had warped.

They Svetlana tubes (not winged c) any info on these? They were in the amp when I bought it.
I guess the bias is out.

I put some JJ's in it sounds good, but slight smell of burning so I think I will take it to a tech and get it fully checked out, maybe even a couple of slight mods.

I will have to wait to play it, shame I love this amp.

Once I get it checked out and full bill of health, I will play around with some pre amp tubes for different sounds me thinks.

This was originally posted over at HC but I am guessing I will get more advice over here.

Dya have a Digital Multimeter? If so, its very easy to bias those amps yourself in a matter of minutes

Bob at Eurotubes even made a video on how to bias a DSL!

No, I can borrow one I know how to bias a DSL..... But then I thought why not get a tech to do a check up any way.

Well how old is the amp?

I'd borrow a DMM and then just check the bias first. If it needs adjusting, then do so. Then if for any reason the amp gives any problems, id then take it to a tech!

Chances are, if the bias is just well out of range, it probably only needs a re-bias :) Could just be biased much too hot, which maybe why the old tubes were getting so hot..

Were they red-plating? Also, did they actually blow and wipe out the fuse too?

I had a TSL a few yrs ago and the resister on the bias burnt and I burned a hole in a power tube! One thing I found with the TSL was the solder on the boards was pretty bad. Had a tech friend resolder the board by hand and did'nt have anymore problems. Except the footswitch sucks. (the cable)

A few years old (2nd hand).
I was going to take it to a tech any way as there is a few other small problems, the speaker selector switch on the back needs replacing as well as other things.

So I thought get it all done.
If I get a good quote of course.
